1Deliver me, O LORD, from the evil man: preserve me from the violent man;Lord, save me from evil people. Protect me from cruel people.
2Which imagine mischiefs in their heart; continually are they gathered together for war.Those people plan to do evil things. Those people always start fights.
3They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent; adders' poison is under their lips. Selah.Their tongues are like poisonous snakes. It is like snake poison is under their tongue. SELAH
4Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the violent man; who have purposed to overthrow my goings.Lord, save me from wicked people. Protect me from cruel people. Those people chase me and try to hurt me.
5The proud have hid a snare for me, and cords; they have spread a net by the wayside; they have set gins for me. Selah.Those proud people set a trap for me. They spread a net to catch me. They set a trap in my path. SELAH
6I said unto the LORD, Thou art my God: hear the voice of my supplications, O LORD.Lord, you are my God. Lord, listen to my prayer.
7O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, thou hast covered my head in the day of battle.Lord, you are my strong Master. You are my Savior. You are like a helmet protecting my head in battle.
8Grant not, O LORD, the desires of the wicked: further not his wicked device; lest they exalt themselves. Selah.Lord, those people are wicked. Donít let them have what they want. Donít let their plans succeed. SELAH
9As for the head of those that compass me about, let the mischief of their own lips cover them.Lord, donít let my enemies win. Those people are planning bad things. But make those bad things happen to them.
10Let burning coals fall upon them: let them be cast into the fire; into deep pits, that they rise not up again.Pour burning coals on their heads. Throw my enemies into the fire. Throw them into the pit (grave) that they will never climb out of.
11Let not an evil speaker be established in the earth: evil shall hunt the violent man to overthrow him.Lord, donít let those liars live. Make bad things happen to those bad people.
12I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and the right of the poor.I know the Lord will judge poor people fairly. God will help helpless people.
13Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence.Good people will praise your name, Lord. Good people will worship you.
