| 1 | What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? | Che diremo dunque? Rimarremo nel peccato, affinché abbondi la grazia? |
| 2 | God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? | Niente affatto! Noi che siamo morti al peccato, come vivremo ancora in esso? |
| 3 | Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? | Ignorate voi, che noi tutti che siamo stati battezzati in Gesù Cristo, siamo stati battezzati nella sua morte? |
| 4 | Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. | Noi dunque siamo stati sepolti con lui per mezzo del battesimo nella morte affinché, come Cristo è risuscitato dai morti per la gloria del Padre, così anche noi similmente camminiamo in novità di vita. |
| 5 | For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: | Poiché, se siamo stati uniti a Cristo per una morte simile alla sua, saremo anche partecipi della sua risurrezione, |
| 6 | Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. | sapendo questo: che il nostro vecchio uomo è stato crocifisso con lui, perché il corpo del peccato possa essere annullato e affinché noi non serviamo più al peccato. |
| 7 | For he that is dead is freed from sin. | Infatti colui che è morto è libero dal peccato. |
| 8 | Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: | Ora se siamo morti con Cristo, noi crediamo pure che vivremo con lui, |
| 9 | Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. | sapendo che Cristo, essendo risuscitato dai morti, non muore più; la morte non ha più alcun potere su di lui. |
| 10 | For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. | Perché, in quanto egli è morto, è morto al peccato una volta per sempre; ma in quanto egli vive, vive a Dio. |
| 11 | Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. | Così anche voi consideratevi morti al peccato, ma viventi a Dio, in Gesù Cristo, nostro Signore. |
| 12 | Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. | Non regni quindi il peccato nel vostro corpo mortale, per ubbidirgli nelle sue concupiscenze. |
| 13 | Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. | Non prestate le vostre membra al peccato come strumenti d'iniquità, ma presentate voi stessi a Dio, come dei morti fatti viventi, e le vostre membra a Dio come strumenti di giustizia. |
| 14 | For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. | Infatti il peccato non avrà più potere su di voi, poiché non siete sotto la legge, ma sotto la grazia. |
| 15 | What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. | Che dunque? Peccheremo noi, perché non siamo sotto la legge, ma sotto la grazia? Così non sia. |
| 16 | Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? | Non sapete voi che a chiunque vi offrite come servi per ubbidirgli, siete servi di colui al quale ubbidite, o del peccato per la morte, o dell'ubbidienza per la giustizia? |
| 17 | But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. | Ora sia ringraziato Dio, perché eravate servi del peccato, ma avete ubbidito di cuore a quell'insegnamento che vi è stato trasmesso. |
| 18 | Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. | E, essendo stati liberati dal peccato, siete stati fatti servi della giustizia. |
| 19 | I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness. | Io parlo in termini umani per la debolezza della vostra carne. Perché, come un tempo prestaste le vostre membra per essere serve dell'impurità e dell'iniquità per commettere l'iniquità, così ora prestate le vostre membra per essere serve della giustizia, per la santificazione. |
| 20 | For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. | Perché, quando eravate servi del peccato, eravate liberi in rapporto alla giustizia. |
| 21 | What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. | Quale frutto dunque avevate allora dalle cose delle quali ora vi vergognate? Poiché la loro fine è la morte. |
| 22 | But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. | Ora invece, essendo stati liberati dal peccato e fatti servi di Dio, voi avete per vostro frutto la santificazione e per fine la vita eterna. |
| 23 | For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. | Infatti il salario del peccato è la morte, ma il dono di Dio è la vita eterna in Cristo Gesù, nostro Signore. |
