| 1 | Quant à celui qui est faible dans la foi, accueillez-le sans discuter ses opinions. | But him that is weak in faith receive ye, [yet] not for decision of scruples. |
| 2 | Tel croit pouvoir manger de tout; tel autre, qui est faible, se nourrit des légumes. | One man hath faith to eat all things: but he that is weak eateth herbs. |
| 3 | Que celui qui mange ne méprise point celui qui ne mange pas, et que celui qui ne mange pas ne juge point celui qui mange, car Dieu l'a accueilli parmi les siens | Let not him that eateth set at nought him that eateth not; and let not him that eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him. |
| 4 | Qui es-tu, toi qui juges le serviteur d'autrui ? S'il se tient debout, ou s'il tombe, cela regarde son maître. Mais il se tiendra debout car Dieu a le pouvoir de le soutenir. | Who art thou that judgest the servant of another? to his own lord he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be made to stand; for the Lord hath power to make him stand. |
| 5 | Tel met de la différence entre les jours; tel autre les estime tous pareils : que chacun ait dans son esprit une pleine conviction. | One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day [alike]. Let each man be fully assured in his own mind. |
| 6 | Celui qui observe tel ou tel jour, l'observe en vue du Seigneur; et celui qui mange, mange en vue du Seigneur, car il rend grâces à Dieu ; et celui qui ne mange pas, c'est en vue du Seigneur qu'il ne mange pas, et il rend aussi grâces à Dieu. | He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord: and he that eateth, eateth unto the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, unto the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks. |
| 7 | En effet, nul de nous ne vit pour soi-même, et nul ne meurt pour soi-même. | For none of us liveth to himself, and none dieth to himself. |
| 8 | Car, soit que nous vivions, nous vivons pour le Seigneur; soit que nous mourrions, nous mourons pour le Seigneur. Soit donc que nous vivions, soit que nous mourions, nous appartenons au Seigneur. | For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; or whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord`s. |
| 9 | Car le Christ est mort et a vécu afin d'être le Seigneur et des morts et des vivants. | For to this end Christ died and lived [again], that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living. |
| 10 | Mais toi, pourquoi juges-tu ton frère ? Toi, aussi, pourquoi méprises-tu ton frère ? puisque nous paraîtrons tous devant le tribunal du Christ; | But thou, why dost thou judge thy brother? or thou again, why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment-seat of God. |
| 11 | car il est écrit : "Je suis vivant, dit le Seigneur; tout genou fléchira devant moi, et toute langue donnera gloire à Dieu." | For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, to me every knee shall bow, And every tongue shall confess to God. |
| 12 | Ainsi chacun de nous rendra compte à Dieu pour soi-même. | So then each one of us shall give account of himself to God. |
| 13 | Ne nous jugeons donc plus les uns les autres; mais jugez plutôt qu'il ne faut rien faire qui soit pour votre frère une pierre d'achoppement ou une occasion de chute. | Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge ye this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock in his brother`s way, or an occasion of falling. |
| 14 | Je sais et je suis persuadé dans le Seigneur Jésus que rien n'est impur en soi; néanmoins, si quelqu'un estime qu'une chose est impure, elle est impure pour lui. | I know, and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean of itself: save that to him who accounteth anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean. |
| 15 | Or, si pour un aliment, tu contristes ton frère, tu ne marches plus selon la charité; n'entraîne pas à la perdition, par ton aliment, un homme pour lequel le Christ est mort. | For if because of meat thy brother is grieved, thou walkest no longer in love. Destroy not with thy meat him for whom Christ died. |
| 16 | Que votre bien ne soit pas un sujet de blasphème ! | Let not then your good be evil spoken of: |
| 17 | Car le royaume de Dieu ce n'est pas le manger et le boire; mais la justice et la paix et la joie dans l'Esprit-Saint. | for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. |
| 18 | Celui qui sert le Christ de cette manière est agréable à Dieu et approuvé des hommes. | For he that herein serveth Christ is well-pleasing to God, and approved of men. |
| 19 | Recherchons donc ce qui contribue à la paix et à l'édification mutuelle. | So then let us follow after things which make for peace, and things whereby we may edify one another. |
| 20 | Garde-toi, pour un aliment, de détruire l'oeuvre de Dieu. Il est vrai que toutes choses sont pures, mais il est mal à un homme de devenir, en mangeant, une pierre d'achoppement. | Overthrow not for meat`s sake the work of God. All things indeed are clean; howbeit it is evil for that man who eateth with offence. |
| 21 | Ce qui est bien, c'est de ne pas manger de viande, de ne pas boire de vin, de ne rien faire qui soit pour ton frère une occasion de chute, [de scandale ou de faiblesse]. | It is good not to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor [to do anything] whereby thy brother stumbleth. |
| 22 | As-tu une conviction ? Garde-la pour toi-même devant Dieu. Heureux celui qui ne se condamne pas dans l'acte qu'il approuve. | The faith which thou hast, have thou to thyself before God. Happy is he that judgeth not himself in that which he approveth. |
| 23 | Mais celui qui a des doutes, s'il mange, il est condamné, parce qu'il n'agit pas par conviction; tout ce qui ne procède pas d'une conviction est péché. | But he that doubteth is condemned if he eat, because [he eateth] not of faith; and whatsoever is not of faith is sin. |
