Hear this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world:Au maître-chantre. To the director. A song from the Korah family. Listen to this all you nations. Listen to this all you people on earth.
Both low and high, rich and poor, together. Every person, poor and rich alike, should listen.
My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding. I will tell you some very wise and intelligent things.
I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.Je vais prêter l'oreille aux discours sentencieux; j'expose mon énigme au son de la harpe.I myself listened to the stories. And now, with my harp, I will sing and reveal that message to you.
Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about? Why should I be afraid if trouble comes. There is no need to be afraid if evil people surround me and try to trap me.
They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;Ils se confient en leurs biens, ils se glorifient de l'abondance de leurs richesses. Some people think their strength and wealth will protect them. But those people are fools.
None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:Mais l'homme ne saurait racheter son frère, ni payer à Dieu sa rançon.No human friend can save you. And you can’t bribe God.
(For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:)Car le rachat de leur âme est trop cher, et il ne se fera jamais,No person will ever get enough money to buy his own life.
That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption. No person will ever get enough money to buy the right to live forever, and to save his own body from rotting in the grave.
For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others. Look, wise people die the same as fools and stupid people. They die and leave their wealth to other people.
Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names. The grave will be their new home forever and ever. And how much land they owned won’t make any difference!
Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish. People might be wealthy, but they can’t stay here forever. They will die just like the animals.
This their way is their folly: yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah. That is what happens to those foolish people who are so pleased with their wealth. SELAH
Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling. Those people are just like sheep. The grave will be their pen. Death will be their shepherd. Then on that morning the good people will be the winners as the bodies of those proud people slowly rot in the grave, far away from their fancy houses.
But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah. (Sélah.)But God will pay the price and save my life. He will save me from the power of the grave when he takes me to be with him! SELAH
Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased;Ne crains point, quand un homme s'enrichit, quand la gloire de sa maison s'accroît.Don’t be afraid of people just because they are rich. Don’t be afraid of people just because they have big fancy houses.
For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him. Those people won’t take a thing with them when they die. They will not take any of those beautiful things with them.
Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and men will praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself. A wealthy person might really congratulate himself on how well he has done in life. And yes, even other people might praise him for how well he had done for himself.
He shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light. But the time will come for him to die and go to his ancestors. And he will never again see the light of day.
Man that is in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that perish.L'homme qui est en honneur et qui n'a pas d'intelligence, devient semblable aux bêtes qui périssent.People might be wealthy, and still not understand. They will die just like the animals.
