We have heard with our ears, O God, Our fathers have told us, What work thou didst in their days, In the days of old.God, we have heard about you. Our fathers told us what you did in their lifetime. They told us what you did long ago.
Par ta main tu as chassé les nations et tu as établi nos pères; tu as brisé les peuples pour leur faire place.Thou didst drive out the nations with thy hand; But them thou didst plant: Thou didst afflict the peoples; But them thou didst spread abroad.God, with your great power you took this land from other people, and you gave it to us. You crushed those foreign people. You forced them to leave this land.
For they gat not the land in possession by their own sword, Neither did their own arm save them; But thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, Because thou wast favorable unto them.It was not our father’s swords that took the land. It was not their strong arms that made them winners. It was because you were with our fathers. God, your great power saved our fathers. Why? Because you loved them!
Thou art my King, O God: Command deliverance for Jacob. My God, you are my king. Give the command and lead Jacob’s people to victory.
Through thee will we push down our adversaries: Through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us.My God, with your help, we will push back our enemies. With your name, we will walk on our enemies.
Car je ne me confie pas en mon arc; ce n'est pas mon épée qui me sauvera. For I will not trust in my bow, Neither shall my sword save me.I don’t trust my bow and arrows. My sword can’t save me.
C'est toi qui nous as sauvés de nos ennemis, et qui as rendu confus ceux qui nous haïssent. But thou hast saved us from our adversaries, And hast put them to shame that hate us.God, you saved us from Egypt. You put our enemies to shame.
In God have we made our boast all the day long, And we will give thanks unto thy name for ever. SelahWe have praised God all day long! And we will praise your name forever! SELAH
But now thou hast cast [us] off, and brought us to dishonor, And goest not forth with our hosts. But, God, you left us. You embarrassed us. You did not come with us into battle.
Thou makest us to turn back from the adversary; And they that hate us take spoil for themselves. You let our enemies push us back. Our enemies took our wealth.
Thou hast made us like sheep [appointed] for food, And hast scattered us among the nations. You gave us away like sheep to be eaten as food. You scattered us among the foreigners.
Thou sellest thy people for nought, And hast not increased [thy wealth] by their price.God, you sold your people for nothing. You didn’t even argue over the price.
Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbors, A scoffing and a derision to them that are round about us.You made us a joke to our neighbors. They laugh at us and make fun of us.
Thou makest us a byword among the nations, A shaking of the head among the peoples. We are one of the funny stories people tell. Even people without a nation of their own laugh at us and shake their heads.
Mon ignominie est toujours devant moi, et la confusion couvre mon visage,All the day long is my dishonor before me, And the shame of my face hath covered me,I am covered with shame. All day long I see my shame.
For the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth, By reason of the enemy and the avenger.I hide in shame at the jokes and insults coming from my enemy who wanted to get even with me.
All this is come upon us; Yet have we not forgotten thee, Neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant.God, we have not forgotten you. Yet you do all those things to us. We did not lie when we signed our Agreement with you!
Notre coeur ne s'est point retiré en arrière; nos pas ne se sont point écartés de ton sentier,Our heart is not turned back, Neither have our steps declined from thy way,God, we have not turned away from you. We have not stopped following you.
That thou hast sore broken us in the place of jackals, And covered us with the shadow of death. But, God, you crushed us in this place where jackals live. You left us in this place as dark as death.
If we have forgotten the name of our God, Or spread forth our hands to a strange god;Did we forget the name of our God? Did we pray to foreign gods? No!
Will not God search this out? For he knoweth the secrets of the heart.Surely, God knows these things. He knows even our deepest secrets.
Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.God, all day long we died for you! We were like sheep being led away to be killed.
Lève-toi! Pourquoi dors-tu, Seigneur? Réveille-toi, ne nous rejette pas à toujours!Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord? Arise, cast [us] not off for ever.Get up, my Master! Why are you sleeping? Get up! Don’t leave us forever!
Pourquoi caches-tu ta face? Pourquoi oublies-tu notre misère et notre oppression?Wherefore hidest thou thy face, And forgettest our affliction and our oppression?God, why are you hiding from us? Have you forgotten our pain and troubles?
For our soul is bowed down to the dust: Our body cleaveth unto the earth. We have been pushed down into the dirt. We are lying with our belly in the dust.
Lève-toi, viens à notre aide, et rachète-nous à cause de ta bonté!Rise up for our help, And redeem us for thy lovingkindness` sake. Psalm 45 For the Chief Musician; set to Shoshannim. [A Psalm] of the sons of Korah. Maschil. A Song of loves.God, get up and help us! Rescue us because of your true love!
