I said, I will take heed to my ways, That I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, While the wicked is before me.Al maestro del coro. Per Jeduthun Salmo di Davide. Io dicevo: Veglierò sulla mia condottaI said, I will be careful about the things I say. I will not let my tongue cause me to sin. I will keep my mouth closed when I am around wicked people.
I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good; And my sorrow was stirred. So I didn’t say anything. I didn’t even say anything good! But I became even more upset.
Mon coeur s'est échauffé au-dedans de moi; ma méditation s'est embrasée comme un feu; ma langue a parlé:My heart was hot within me; While I was musing the fire burned: [Then] spake I with my tongue:Il mio cuore ardeva dentro di me; mentre meditavo, un fuoco si è acceso; allora ho parlato con la mia lingua:I was very angry. And the more I thought about it, the angrier I became. So I said something.
Jehovah, make me to know mine end, And the measure of my days, what it is; Let me know how frail I am.O Eterno, fammi conoscere la mia fine e quale sia la misura dei miei giorni; fa' che io sappia quanto sono fragile.Lord, tell me, what will happen to me now? Tell me, how long will I live? Let me know how short my life really is.
Sélah (pause).Behold, thou hast made my days [as] handbreadths; And my life-time is as nothing before thee: Surely every man at his best estate is altogether vanity. (Sela)Lord, you gave me only a short life. My short life is nothing, compared to you. Every person’s life is only like a cloud that quickly disappears. No person lives forever! SELAH
Surely every man walketh in a vain show; Surely they are disquieted in vain: He heapeth up [riches], and knoweth not who shall gather them.Sì, l'uomo va attorno come un'ombra sì, invano si affaticano tutti e accumulano beni senza sapere chi li raccoglierà!Our life is like an image in a mirror. We rush through life collecting things, but we don’t know who will get them after we die.
Et maintenant, qu'ai-je attendu, Seigneur? Mon espoir est en toi.And now, Lord, what wait I for? My hope is in thee.Ma ora, o Signore, che aspetto? La mia speranza è in te,So, Master, what hope do I have? You are my hope!
Deliver me from all my transgressions: Make me not the reproach of the foolish. Lord, save me from the bad things I did. Don’t let me be treated like a fool.
Je me suis tu, je n'ouvre pas la bouche, parce que c'est toi qui l'as fait.I was dumb, I opened not my mouth; Because thou didst it.Sto in silenzio, non aprirò bocca, perché sei tu che operi.I will not open my mouth. I will not say anything. Lord, you did what should be done.
Remove thy stroke away from me: I am consumed by the blow of thy hand. But God, stop punishing me. You will destroy me if you don’t stop!
(Sélah.)When thou with rebukes dost correct man for iniquity, Thou makest his beauty to consume away like a moth: Surely every man is vanity. (Sela)Lord, you punish people for doing wrong to teach them the right way to live. Like a moth destroys cloth, you destroy the things people love. Yes, our lives are like a small cloud that quickly disappears. SELAH
Hear my prayer, O Jehovah, and give ear unto my cry; Hold not thy peace at my tears: For I am a stranger with thee, A sojourner, as all my fathers were.O Eterno, ascolta la mia preghiera e porgi l'orecchio al mio grido, non essere sordo alle mie lacrime, poiché davanti a te io sono un forestiero e un pellegrino, come tutti i miei padri.Lord, hear my prayer! Listen to the words I cry to you. Look at my tears. I am only a traveler passing through this life with you. Like all my ancestors, I live here only a short time.
Oh spare me, that I may recover strength, Before I go hence, and be no more. Psalm 40 For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.Distogli il tuo sguardo da me, perché io possa riprendere forza prima che me ne vada e non sia più.Lord, leave me alone and let me be happy before I am dead and gone.
