| King James | Ostervald | Easy to read |
| Lord, remember David, and all his afflictions: | Cantique de Maaloth. Éternel, souviens-toi de David et de toute son affliction; | A song for going up to the temple. Lord, remember how David suffered. |
| How he sware unto the LORD, and vowed unto the mighty God of Jacob; | Lui qui jura à l'Éternel, et fit ce voeu au Puissant de Jacob: | David made a promise to the Lord. David made a special promise to the Mighty God of Jacob. |
| Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house, nor go up into my bed; | Si j'entre sous l'abri de ma maison, et si je monte sur le lit où je repose; | David said, I will not go into my house, I will not lie down on my bed, |
| I will not give sleep to mine eyes, or slumber to mine eyelids, | Si je donne du sommeil à mes yeux, du repos à mes paupières; | I will not sleep, I will not let my eyes rest, |
| Until I find out a place for the LORD, an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob. | I will not do any of those things until I find a house for the Lord, a home for the Mighty God of Jacob! |
| Lo, we heard of it at Ephratah: we found it in the fields of the wood. | We heard about it in Ephrathah. We found the Box of the Agreement at Kiriath Jearim. |
| We will go into his tabernacles: we will worship at his footstool. | Entrons dans ses demeures; prosternons-nous devant son marche-pied! | Let’s go to the Holy Tent. Let’s worship at the stool where God rests his feet. |
| Arise, O LORD, into thy rest; thou, and the ark of thy strength. | Lord, get up from your resting place. Get up Lord, you and your powerful Box. |
| Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness; and let thy saints shout for joy. | Lord, your priests are dressed in goodness. Your loyal followers are very happy. |
| For thy servant David's sake turn not away the face of thine anointed. | For the good of your servant, David, don’t reject your chosen king. |
| The LORD hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne. | The Lord made a promise to David. The Lord promised to be loyal to David. The Lord promised that the kings would come from David’s family. |
| If thy children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore. | The Lord said, David, if your children obey my Agreement and the laws I teach them, then someone from your family will always be the king. |
| For the LORD hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation. | The Lord chose Zion to be the place for his temple. That is the place he wanted for his home. |
| This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it. | The Lord said, This will be my place forever and ever. I choose this to be the place where I will be. |
| I will abundantly bless her provision: I will satisfy her poor with bread. | I will bless this city with plenty of food. Even poor people will have plenty to eat. |
| I will also clothe her priests with salvation: and her saints shall shout aloud for joy. | I will clothe the priests with salvation. And my followers will be very happy here. |
| There will I make the horn of David to bud: I have ordained a lamp for mine anointed. | In this place, I will make David strong. I will provide a lamp for my chosen king. |
| His enemies will I clothe with shame: but upon himself shall his crown flourish. | I will cover David’s enemies in shame. But I will make David’s kingdom grow. |
