He hath remembered his covenant for ever, The word which he commanded to a thousand generations,Remember God’s Agreement forever. Remember his commands for 1,000 generations!
Du traité qu'il fit avec Abraham, et du serment qu'il fit à Isaac,[The covenant] which he made with Abraham, And his oath unto Isaac,God made an Agreement with Abraham. God made a promise to Isaac.
And confirmed the same unto Jacob for a statute, To Israel for an everlasting covenant,Then he made it a law for Jacob. God made his Agreement with Israel. It will continue forever!
Disant: Je te donnerai le pays de Canaan; c'est le lot de votre héritage;Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, The lot of your inheritance;God said, I will give you the land of Canaan. That land will belong to you.
When they were but a few men in number, Yea, very few, and sojourners in it.God made that promise when Abraham’s family was small. They were only strangers spending time there.
And they went about from nation to nation, From one kingdom to another people. They traveled from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another.
Il ne permit à personne de les opprimer, et il châtia des rois à cause d'eux,He suffered no man to do them wrong; Yea, he reproved kings for their sakes,But God did not let people mistreat them. God warned kings not to hurt them.
Disant: Ne touchez pas à mes oints, et ne faites point de mal à mes prophètes![Saying], Touch not mine anointed ones, And do my prophets no harm.God said, Don’t hurt my chosen people. Don’t do anything bad to my prophets.
And he called for a famine upon the land; He brake the whole staff of bread.God caused a famine in that country. People did not have enough food to eat.
He sent a man before them; Joseph was sold for a servant:But God sent a man named Joseph to go ahead of them. Joseph was sold like a slave.
His feet they hurt with fetters: He was laid in [chains of] iron,They tied a rope around Joseph’s feet. They put an iron ring around his neck.
Until the time that his word came to pass, The word of Jehovah tried him.Joseph was a slave until the things he said really happened. The Lord’s message proved that Joseph was right.
The king sent and loosed him; Even the ruler of peoples, and let him go free.So the king of Egypt set him free. That nation’s leader let him out of jail.
Il l'établit seigneur de sa maison, et gouverneur de tous ses biens; He made him lord of his house, And ruler of all his substance; He put Joseph in charge of his house. Joseph took care of everything he owned.
To bind his princes at his pleasure, And teach his elders wisdom.Joseph gave instructions to the other leaders. Joseph taught the older men.
Israel also came into Egypt; And Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham.Then Israel came to Egypt. Jacob lived in Ham’s country.
And he increased his people greatly, And made them stronger than their adversaries.Jacob’s family became very large. They became more powerful than their enemies.
He turned their heart to hate his people, To deal subtly with his servants. So the Egyptians began to hate Jacob’s family. They made plans against their slaves.
He sent Moses his servant, [And] Aaron whom he had chosen. So God sent his servant, Moses, and Aaron, God’s chosen priest.
They set among them his signs, And wonders in the land of Ham.God used Moses and Aaron to do many miracles in Ham’s country.
He sent darkness, and made it dark; And they rebelled not against his words.God sent the very dark darkness, but the Egyptians did not listen to him.
He turned their waters into blood, And slew their fish.So God changed the water into blood, and all their fish died.
Their land swarmed with frogs In the chambers of their kings.Their country was filled with frogs. Frogs were even in the king’s bedroom.
He spake, and there came swarms of flies, And lice in all their borders.God gave the command, and the flies and gnats came. They were everywhere!
He gave them hail for rain, [And] flaming fire in their land.God made the rain become hail. Lightning struck throughout their country.
He smote their vines also and their fig-trees, And brake the trees of their borders.God destroyed their vines and fig trees. God destroyed every tree in their country.
Il parla, et des sauterelles vinrent, des insectes rongeurs sans nombre,He spake, and the locust came, And the grasshopper, and that without number,God gave the command, and the locusts and grasshoppers came. There were too many to count!
And did eat up every herb in their land, And did eat up the fruit of their ground. The locusts and grasshoppers ate all the plants in the country. They ate all the crops in the fields.
He smote also all the first-born in their land, The chief of all their strength. And then God killed every firstborn in their country. God killed their oldest sons.
And he brought them forth with silver and gold; And there was not one feeble person among his tribes. Then God took his people out of Egypt. They brought gold and silver with them. None of God’s people stumbled and fell.
Egypt was glad when they departed; For the fear of them had fallen upon them.Egypt was happy to see God’s people go, because they were afraid of God’s people.
He spread a cloud for a covering, And fire to give light in the night.God spread out his cloud like a blanket. God used his column of fire to give his people light at night.
They asked, and he brought quails, And satisfied them with the bread of heaven. The people asked for food, and God brought them quail. God gave them plenty of bread from heaven.
He opened the rock, and waters gushed out; They ran in the dry places [like] a river.God split the rock, and water came bubbling out. A river began flowing in the desert!
For he remembered his holy word, [And] Abraham his servant.God remembered his holy promise. God remembered the promise he had made to his servant Abraham.
And he brought forth his people with joy, [And] his chosen with singing.God brought his people out from Egypt. The people came out rejoicing and singing their happy songs!
And he gave them the lands of the nations; And they took the labor of the peoples in possession:Then God gave his people the country where other people were living. God’s people got the things other people had worked for.
That they might keep his statutes, And observe his laws. Praise ye Jehovah. Psalm 106Why did God do this? So his people could obey his laws. So they could carefully obey his teachings. Praise the Lord!
