| 4 | But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword. | Mais ce qui en provient est amer comme de l'absinthe, et perçant comme une épée à deux tranchants. |
| 5 | Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell. | Ses pieds conduisent à la mort; ses démarches aboutissent au Sépulcre. |
| 6 | Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them. | Elle ne considère pas le chemin de la vie; ses voies s'égarent, elle ne sait où. |
| 7 | Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth. | Maintenant donc, mes enfants, écoutez-moi; et ne vous détournez point des paroles de ma bouche. |
| 8 | Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house: | Éloigne ton chemin d'elle, et n'approche point de l'entrée de sa maison; |
| 9 | Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel: | De peur que tu ne donnes ton honneur à d'autres, et tes années à un homme cruel; |
| 10 | Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger; | De peur que les étrangers ne se rassasient de ta fortune, et que ce que tu auras acquis par ton travail ne passe dans une maison étrangère; |
| 11 | And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed, | Et que tu ne rugisses quand tu seras près de ta fin, quand ta chair et ton corps seront consumés, |
| 12 | And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof; | Et que tu ne dises: Comment ai-je haï l'instruction, et comment mon coeur a-t-il dédaigné les réprimandes? |
| 13 | And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me! | Comment n'ai-je point obéi à la voix de ceux qui m'instruisaient, et n'ai-je point incliné mon oreille vers ceux qui m'enseignaient? |
| 14 | I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly. | Peu s'en est fallu que je n'aie été plongé dans tous les maux, au milieu du peuple et de l'assemblée. |
| 15 | Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well. | Bois des eaux de ta citerne, et des ruisseaux de ton puits. |
| 16 | Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets. | Tes fontaines doivent-elles se répandre dehors, et tes ruisseaux d'eau sur les places publiques? |
| 17 | Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee. | Qu'ils soient à toi seul, et non aux étrangers avec toi. |
| 18 | Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth. | Que ta source soit bénie; et réjouis-toi de la femme de ta jeunesse, |
| 19 | Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love. | Comme d'une biche aimable et d'une chèvre gracieuse; que ses caresses te réjouissent en tout temps, et sois continuellement épris de son amour. |
| 20 | And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger? | Et pourquoi, mon fils, t'égarerais-tu après une autre, et embrasserais-tu le sein d'une étrangère? |
| 21 | For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings. | Car les voies de l'homme sont devant les yeux de l'Éternel, et il pèse toutes ses démarches. |
| 22 | His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins. | Le méchant sera pris dans ses iniquités, et il sera retenu dans les cordes de son péché. |
| 23 | He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray. | Il mourra, faute d'instruction, et il ira errant par la grandeur de sa folie. |
