| 1 | My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; | Mon fils, si tu reçois mes paroles, et que tu mettes en réserve par-devers toi mes commandements; |
| 2 | So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; | Tellement que tu rendes ton oreille attentive à la sagesse, et que tu inclines ton coeur à l'intelligence; |
| 3 | Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; | Si tu appelles à toi la prudence, et que tu adresses ta voix à l'intelligence; |
| 4 | If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; | Si tu la cherches comme de l'argent, et si tu la recherches soigneusement comme des trésors; |
| 5 | Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. | Alors tu connaîtras la crainte de l'Eternel, et tu trouveras la connaissance de Dieu. |
| 6 | For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. | Car l'Eternel donne la sagesse; et de sa bouche procède la connaissance et l'intelligence. |
| 7 | He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly. | Il réserve pour ceux qui sont droits un état permanent, et il est le bouclier de ceux qui marchent dans l'intégrité; |
| 8 | He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints. | Pour garder les sentiers de jugement; tellement qu' il gardera la voie de ses bien-aimés. |
| 9 | Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path. | Alors tu entendras la justice, et le jugement, et l'équité, et tout bon chemin. |
| 10 | When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; | Si la sagesse vient en ton coeur, et si la connaissance est agréable à ton âme; |
| 11 | Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee: | La prudence te conservera, et l'intelligence te gardera; |
| 12 | To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things; | Pour te délivrer du mauvais chemin, et de l'homme prononçant de mauvais discours. |
| 13 | Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness; | De ceux qui laissent les chemins de la droiture pour marcher par les voies de ténèbres; |
| 14 | Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked; | Qui se réjouissent à mal faire, et s'égayent dans les renversements que fait le méchant. |
| 15 | Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths: | Desquels les chemins sont tortus, et qui vont de travers en leur train. |
| 16 | To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words; | Et afin qu'il te délivre de la femme étrangère, et de la femme d'autrui, dont les paroles sont flatteuses; |
| 17 | Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God. | Qui abandonne le conducteur de sa jeunesse, et qui a oublié l'alliance de son Dieu. |
| 18 | For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead. | Car sa maison penche vers la mort, et son chemin mène vers les trépassés. |
| 19 | None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life. | Pas un de ceux qui vont vers elle, n'en retourne, ni ne reprend les sentiers de la vie. |
| 20 | That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous. | Afin aussi que tu marches dans la voie des gens de bien, et que tu gardes les sentiers des justes. |
| 21 | For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it. | Car ceux qui sont justes habiteront en la terre, et les hommes intègres demeureront de reste en elle. |
| 22 | But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it. | Mais les méchants seront retranchés de la terre, et ceux qui agissent perfidement en seront arrachés. |
