| 1 | Come, and let us return unto Jehovah; for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up. | Venite, ritorniamo all'Eterno, perché egli ha lacerato, ma ci guarirà; ha percosso, ma ci fascerà. |
| 2 | After two days will he revive us: on the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live before him. | Dopo due giorni ci ridarà la vita, il terzo giorno ci farà risorgere e noi vivremo alla sua presenza. |
| 3 | And let us know, let us follow on to know Jehovah: his going forth is sure as the morning; and he will come unto us as the rain, as the latter rain that watereth the earth. | Conosciamo l'Eterno, sforziamoci di conoscerlo; il suo levarsi è certo come l'aurora. Egli verrà a noi come la pioggia, come l'ultima e la prima pioggia, alla terra. |
| 4 | O Ephraim, what shall I do unto thee? O Judah, what shall I do unto thee? for your goodness is as a morning cloud, and as the dew that goeth early away. | Che cosa devo fare con te, o Efraim? Che cosa devo fare con te, o Giuda? Il vostro amore è come una nuvola mattutina, come la rugiada che al mattino presto scompare. |
| 5 | Therefore have I hewed them by the prophets; I have slain them by the words of my mouth: and thy judgments are [as] the light that goeth forth. | Per questo li ho tagliati per mezzo dei profeti, li ho uccisi con le parole della mia bocca e i miei giudizi su di voi sono come la luce che si sprigiona. |
| 6 | For I desire goodness, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt-offerings. | Poiché io desidero la misericordia e non i sacrifici, e la conoscenza di DIO più degli olocausti. |
| 7 | But they like Adam have transgressed the covenant: there have they dealt treacherously against me. | Ma, come Adamo, essi hanno trasgredito il patto, hanno agito con inganno verso di me. |
| 8 | Gilead is a city of them that work iniquity; it is stained with blood. | Galaad è una città di malfattori e macchiata di sangue. |
| 9 | And as troops of robbers wait for a man, so the company of priests murder in the way toward Shechem; yea, they have committed lewdness. | Come le bande di briganti stanno in agguato per un uomo, così una ciurma di sacerdoti massacra sulla via di Sichem, commette scelleratezze. |
| 10 | In the house of Israel I have seen a horrible thing: there whoredom is [found] in Ephraim, Israel is defiled. | Nella casa d'Israele ho visto una cosa orrenda: là si prostituisce Efraim, là Israele si contamina. |
| 11 | Also, O Judah, there is a harvest appointed for thee, when I bring back the captivity of my people. | Anche per te, o Giuda, è riserbata una messe, quando ricondurrò dalla cattività il mio popolo. |
