| 1 | Ephraim feedeth on wind, and followeth after the east wind: he daily increaseth lies and desolation; and they do make a covenant with the Assyrians, and oil is carried into Egypt. | Ephraïm se repaît de vent, et va après le vent d'Orient; il multiplie tous les jours ses mensonges et le dégât, et ils traitent alliance avec l'Assyrie, et l'on porte des huiles de senteur en Egypte. |
| 2 | The LORD hath also a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; according to his doings will he recompense him. | L'Eternel a aussi un procès avec Juda, et il visitera Jacob selon son train, il lui rendra selon ses oeuvres. |
| 3 | He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and by his strength he had power with God: | Dès le ventre il supplanta son frère, puis par sa force il fut vainqueur en luttant avec Dieu. |
| 4 | Yea, he had power over the angel, and prevailed: he wept, and made supplication unto him: he found him in Bethel, and there he spake with us; | Il fut vainqueur en luttant avec l'Ange, et fut le plus fort; il pleura, et lui demanda grâce; il le trouva à Béthel, et là Dieu parla avec nous. |
| 5 | Even the LORD God of hosts; the LORD is his memorial. | Or l'Eternel est le Dieu des armées; son mémorial, c'est L'Eternel. |
| 6 | Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment and wait on thy God continually. | Toi donc retourne-toi à ton Dieu; garde la miséricorde et le jugement, et aie continuellement espérance en ton Dieu. |
| 7 | He is a merchant, the balances of deceit are in his hand: he loveth to oppress. | Ephraïm est un marchand; il y a en sa main des balances trompeuses; il aime à faire des extorsions. |
| 8 | And Ephraim said, Yet I am become rich, I have found me out substance: in all my labours they shall find none iniquity in me that were sin. | Et Ephraïm a dit: Quoi qu'il en soit, je suis devenu riche; je me suis acquis des richesses; pas un de mes travaux ne feront trouver en moi une iniquité qui soit un péché. |
| 9 | And I that am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt will yet make thee to dwell in tabernacles, as in the days of the solemn feast. | Et moi je suis l'Eternel ton Dieu dès le pays d'Egypte; je te ferai encore habiter dans des tentes, comme aux jours de fête solennelle. |
| 10 | I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets. | Je parlerai par les Prophètes, et multiplierai les visions, et je proposerai des similitudes par le moyen des Prophètes. |
| 11 | Is there iniquity in Gilead? surely they are vanity: they sacrifice bullocks in Gilgal; yea, their altars are as heaps in the furrows of the fields. | Certainement Galaad n'est qu'iniquité, certainement ils ne sont que vanité; ils ont sacrifié des boeufs en Guilgal; même leurs autels sont comme des monceaux sur les sillons des champs. |
| 12 | And Jacob fled into the country of Syria, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he kept sheep. | Or Jacob s'enfuit au pays de Syrie, et Israël servit pour une femme, et pour une femme il garda le bétail. |
| 13 | And by a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved. | Puis l'Eternel fit remonter Israël hors d'Egypte par le Prophète, et il fut gardé par le Prophète. |
| 14 | Ephraim provoked him to anger most bitterly: therefore shall he leave his blood upon him, and his reproach shall his LORD return unto him. | Mais Ephraïm a provoqué Dieu à une amère indignation, c'est pourquoi on répandra son sang sur lui, et son Seigneur lui rendra son opprobre. |
