| 2 | But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting. | Et toi, Bethléem Ephrata, petite pour être entre les milliers de Juda, de toi sortira pour moi celui qui doit être dominateur en Israël, et ses origines dateront des temps anciens, des jours de l'éternité. |
| 3 | Therefore will he give them up, until the time that she which travaileth hath brought forth: then the remnant of his brethren shall return unto the children of Israel. | C'est pourquoi il les livrera, jusqu'au temps où celle qui doit enfanter aura enfanté ; et le reste de ses frères reviendra aux enfants d'Israël. |
| 4 | And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God; and they shall abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth. | Il se tiendra ferme, et il paîtra ses brebis, dans la force de Yahweh, dans la majesté du nom de Yahweh, son Dieu ; et on demeurera en sécurité, car maintenant il sera grand, jusqu'aux extrémités de la terre. |
| 5 | And this man shall be the peace, when the Assyrian shall come into our land: and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men. | C'est lui qui sera la paix. Quand l'Assyrien viendra dans notre pays, et que son pied foulera nos palais, nous ferons lever contre lui sept pasteurs, et huit princes du peuple. |
| 6 | And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof: thus shall he deliver us from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our borders. | Ils paîtront le pays d'Assur avec l'épée, et le pays de Nemrod dans ses portes ; Il nous délivrera de l'Assyrien, lorsqu'il viendra dans notre pays, et que son pied foulera notre territoire. |
| 7 | And the remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many people as a dew from the LORD, as the showers upon the grass, that tarrieth not for man, nor waiteth for the sons of men. | Et le reste de Jacob sera, au milieu de peuples nombreux, comme une rosée venant de Yahweh, comme des gouttes de pluie sur le gazon, lequel n'attend personne, et n'espère pas dans les enfants des hommes. |
| 8 | And the remnant of Jacob shall be among the Gentiles in the midst of many people as a lion among the beasts of the forest, as a young lion among the flocks of sheep: who, if he go through, both treadeth down, and teareth in pieces, and none can deliver. | Et le reste de Jacob sera aussi parmi les nations, au milieu de peuples nombreux, comme un lion parmi ni les bêtes de la forêt, comme un jeune lion parmi les troupeaux de brebis ; lorsqu'il passe, foule et déchire, personne ne délivre. |
| 9 | Thine hand shall be lifted up upon thine adversaries, and all thine enemies shall be cut off. | Que votre main se lève contre vos adversaires, et que vos ennemis soient exterminés ! |
| 10 | And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD, that I will cut off thy horses out of the midst of thee, and I will destroy thy chariots: | En ce jour-là, - oracle de Yahweh, j'exterminerai tes chevaux du milieu de toi, et je détruirai tes chars, |
| 11 | And I will cut off the cities of thy land, and throw down all thy strong holds: | je ruinerai les villes de ton pays, et je démolirai toutes tes forteresses. |
| 12 | And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers: | Je retrancherai de ta main les sortilèges, et il n'y aura plus chez toi de devins. |
| 13 | Thy graven images also will I cut off, and thy standing images out of the midst of thee; and thou shalt no more worship the work of thine hands. | J'exterminerai du milieu de toi tes idoles et tes stèles, et tu n'adoreras plus l'ouvrage de tes mains. |
| 14 | And I will pluck up thy groves out of the midst of thee: so will I destroy thy cities. | J'arracherai du milieu de toi tes aschéras, et je détruirai tes villes. |
| 15 | And I will execute vengeance in anger and fury upon the heathen, such as they have not heard. | Et dans ma colère et dans ma fureur, je tirerai vengeance des peuples qui n'auront pas écouté. |
