| 1 | And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes. | Ils arrivèrent à l'autre rive de la mer, au pays des Géraséniens. |
| 2 | And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, | Et comme il venait de sortir de la barque, vint à sa rencontre, (sortant) des tombeaux, un homme possédé d'un esprit impur, |
| 3 | Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains: | qui avait sa demeure dans les tombeaux; et nul ne pouvait plus le lier, même avec une chaîne, |
| 4 | Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him. | car on l'avait souvent lié avec des entraves et des chaînes, et il avait brisé les chaînes et broyé les entraves, et personne n'était capable de le dompter. |
| 5 | And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones. | Continuellement, de nuit et de jour, il était dans les tombeaux et sur les montagnes, poussant des cris et se meurtrissant avec des pierres. |
| 6 | But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him, | Ayant aperçu Jésus de loin, il accourut, se prosterna devant lui, et, |
| 7 | And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not. | ayant poussé des cris, il dit d'une voix forte : "Qu'avons-nous affaire ensemble, Jésus, fils du Dieu très haut ? Je vous adjure, par Dieu, ne me tourmentez point." |
| 8 | For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit. | C'est qu'il lui disait : "Esprit impur, sors de cet homme." |
| 9 | And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many. | Et il lui demanda : "Quel est ton nom ?"Et il lui dit : "Mon nom est Légion, car nous sommes nombreux." |
| 10 | And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country. | Et il le priait instamment de ne pas les envoyer hors du pays. |
| 11 | Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding. | Or, il y avait là, près de la montagne, un grand troupeau de porcs qui paissaient. |
| 12 | And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them. | Et ils lui firent cette prière : "Envoyez-nous dans les porcs, afin que nous entrions dedans." |
| 13 | And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea. | Il le leur permit; et les esprits impurs sortirent et entrèrent dans les porcs, et le troupeau, (qui était) d'environ deux mille, se précipita par les pentes escarpées dans la mer, et ils se noyèrent dans la mer. |
| 14 | And they that fed the swine fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was done. | Ceux qui les gardaient s'enfuirent, et ils racontèrent (la chose) dans la ville et dans la compagne. Et on vint voir ce qui était arrivé. |
| 15 | And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid. | Ils viennent à Jésus et voient le démoniaque, lui qui avait eu la Légion, assis, vêtu et dans son bon sens : ils furent saisis de frayeur. |
| 16 | And they that saw it told them how it befell to him that was possessed with the devil, and also concerning the swine. | Et ceux qui avaient vu leur firent le récit de ce qui était arrivé au possédé et aux porcs. |
| 17 | And they began to pray him to depart out of their coasts. | Alors ils se mirent à le supplier de s'éloigner de leur territoire. |
| 18 | And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him. | Comme il montait dans la barque, celui qui avait été possédé du démon le suppliait pour rester avec lui. |
| 19 | Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee. | Il ne le lui permit pas, mais il lui dit : "Va dans ta maison, auprès des tiens, et raconte-leur tout ce que le Seigneur a fait pour toi, et comment il a eu pitié de toi." |
| 20 | And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel. | Il s'en alla et se mit à publier dans la Décapole tout ce que Jésus avait fait pour lui, et tous étaient dans l'admiration. |
| 21 | And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side, much people gathered unto him: and he was nigh unto the sea. | Jésus ayant de nouveau traversé la mer dans la barque, une grande foule s'assembla autour de lui; et il était au bord de la mer. |
| 22 | And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet, | Alors vient un des chefs de synagogue, nommé Jaïre, qui en le voyant, tombe à ses pieds |
| 23 | And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live. | et le supplie avec instance, disant : "Ma fillette est à l'extrémité; venez, imposez-lui les mains sur elle, afin qu'elle soit guérie et qu'elle vive." |
| 24 | And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him. | Et il s'en alla avec lui, et une foule nombreuse le suivait, et on le pressait. |
| 25 | And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years, | Or une femme qui avait un flux de sang depuis douze ans, |
| 26 | And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse, | et avait beaucoup souffert du fait de nombreux médecins, et avait dépensé tout son bien sans aucun profit mais plutôt pour aller plus mal, |
| 27 | When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. | ayant entendu parler de Jésus, vint dans la foule, par derrière, et toucha son vêtement. |
| 28 | For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. | Car elle disait : "Si je touche seulement ses vêtements, je serai guérie." |
| 29 | And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague. | Aussitôt la source (du flux) de sang fut tarie, et elle connut en son corps qu'elle était guérie de son infirmité. |
| 30 | And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes? | Et aussitôt Jésus eut conscience en lui-même de la vertu qui était sortie de lui, et se retournant dans la foule, il dit : "Qui a touché mes vêtements ?" |
| 31 | And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? | Ses disciples lui dirent : "Vous voyez la foule qui vous presse, et vous dites : Qui m'a touché ?" |
| 32 | And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing. | Et il regardait tout autour pour voir celle qui avait fait cela. |
| 33 | But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth. | Et la femme, saisie de crainte et tremblante, sachant ce qui s'était passé en elle, vint se jeter à ses pieds, et lui dit toute la vérité. |
| 34 | And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague. | Il lui dit : "Ma fille, ta foi t'a guérie; va en paix, et sois indemne de ton infirmité." |
| 35 | While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further? | Il parlait encore, lorsqu'on vient de la maison du chef de synagogue dire : Ta fille est morte, pourquoi importuner davantage le Maître ? |
| 36 | As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe. | Mais Jésus, ayant surpris la parole qui venait d'être prononcée, dit au chef de synagogue : "Ne crains pas, crois seulement." |
| 37 | And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James. | Et il ne laissa personne l'accompagner, si ce n'est Pierre, Jacques et Jean, le frère de Jacques. |
| 38 | And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly. | On arrive à la maison du chef de synagogue, et il voit du tumulte et des gens qui pleurent et poussent de grands cris. |
| 39 | And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth. | Il entre et leur dit : "Pourquoi ce tumulte et ces pleurs ? L'enfant n'est pas morte, mais elle dort." |
| 40 | And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying. | Et ils se moquaient de lui. Mais lui, les ayant tous fait sortir, prit avec lui le père et la mère de l'enfant, et ceux qui l'accompagnaient, et il entra là où l'enfant était [étendue]. |
| 41 | And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise. | Et prenant la main de l'enfant, il lui dit : "Talitha qoum, "ce qui se traduit : "Jeune fille, je te le dis, lève-toi ! " |
| 42 | And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment. | Aussitôt la jeune fille se leva et se mit à marcher; elle avait en effet douze ans. Et aussitôt ils furent frappés de stupeur. |
| 43 | And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat. | Et il leur recommanda fortement que personne ne le sût; puis il dit de lui donner à manger. |
