| 2 | Et il fit sa requête à l'Éternel, et dit: Ah! Éternel, n'est-ce pas là ce que je disais quand j'étais encore dans mon pays? C'est pourquoi je voulais prévenir cela en m'enfuyant à Tarsis. Car je savais que tu es un Dieu miséricordieux, compatissant, lent à la colère et abondant en grâce, et qui te repens du mal. | And he prayed unto Jehovah, and said, I pray thee, O Jehovah, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I hasted to flee unto Tarshish; for I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in lovingkindness, and repentest thee of the evil. | Così egli pregò l'Eterno, dicendo: Deh, o Eterno, non era forse questo che dicevo quand'ero ancora nel mio paese? Per questo sono fuggito in precedenza a Tarshish, perché sapevo che sei un Dio misericordioso e pieno di compassione lento all'ira e di gran benignità, e che ti penti del male minacciato. |
| 3 | Maintenant, Éternel, prends donc ma vie; car mieux me vaut la mort que la vie! | Therefore now, O Jehovah, take, I beseech thee, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live. | Or dunque, o Eterno, ti prego, toglimi la vita, perché per me è meglio morire che vivere. |
| 4 | Et l'Éternel lui dit: Fais-tu bien de t'irriter? | And Jehovah said, Doest thou well to be angry? | Ma l'Eterno gli disse: Ti pare giusto adirarti così?. |
| 5 | Alors Jonas sortit de la ville, et s'assit à l'orient de la ville; il s'y fit une cabane et s'y tint à l'ombre, jusqu'à ce qu'il vit ce qui arriverait à la ville. | Then Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city, and there made him a booth, and sat under it in the shade, till he might see what would become of the city. | Allora Giona uscì dalla città e si mise a sedere a est della città, là si fece una capanna e vi sedette sotto, all'ombra, per poter vedere ciò che sarebbe successo alla città. |
| 6 | Et l'Éternel fit croître un ricin, qui s'éleva au-dessus de Jonas, pour donner de l'ombre sur sa tête et le délivrer de son chagrin. Et Jonas éprouva une grande joie à cause de ce ricin. | And Jehovah God prepared a gourd, and made it to come up over Jonah, that it might be a shade over his head, to deliver him from his evil case. So Jonah was exceeding glad because of the gourd. | Allora l'Eterno Dio preparò una pianta che crebbe al di sopra di Giona per fare ombra al suo capo e liberarlo del suo male; e Giona provò una grandissima gioia per quella pianta. |
| 7 | Mais Dieu fit venir le lendemain, au lever de l'aurore, un ver qui attaqua le ricin, en sorte qu'il sécha. | But God prepared a worm when the morning rose the next day, and it smote the gourd, that it withered. | Allo spuntar dell'alba del giorno seguente DIO preparò un verme che colpì la pianta, e questa si seccò. |
| 8 | Puis il arriva qu'au lever du soleil Dieu fit venir un vent chaud d'orient, et le soleil frappa sur la tête de Jonas, en sorte qu'il tomba en défaillance. Et il demanda la mort, et dit: Mieux me vaut la mort que la vie! | And it came to pass, when the sun arose, that God prepared a sultry east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, that he fainted, and requested for himself that he might die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live. | Quando si levò il sole DIO procurò un afoso vento orientale, e il sole picchiò sul capo di Giona, che si sentì venir meno e chiese di morire, dicendo: Per me è meglio morire che vivere. |
| 9 | Mais Dieu dit à Jonas: Fais-tu bien de t'irriter à cause de ce ricin? Et il répondit: J'ai raison de m'irriter jusqu'à la mort. | And God said to Jonah, Doest thou well to be angry for the gourd? And he said, I do well to be angry, even unto death. | DIO disse a Giona: Ti pare giusto adirarti così per la pianta?. Egli rispose: Sì, è giusto per me adirarmi fino alla morte. |
| 10 | Alors l'Éternel dit: Tu as pitié d'un ricin, pour lequel tu n'as pris aucune peine, et que tu n'as point fait croître, qui est né dans une nuit, et dans une nuit a péri; | And Jehovah said, Thou hast had regard for the gourd, for which thou hast not labored, neither madest it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night: | Ma l'Eterno disse: Tu hai avuto compassione per la pianta per cui non hai faticato né hai fatto crescere, e che in una notte è cresciuta e in una notte è perita. |
| 11 | Et moi je n'aurais pas pitié de Ninive, la grande ville, dans laquelle il y a plus de cent vingt mille créatures humaines qui ne savent pas distinguer leur droite de leur gauche, et du bétail en grand nombre! | and should not I have regard for Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle? | E non dovrei io aver compassione di Ninive, la grande città, nella quale ci sono centoventimila persone che non sanno distinguere la loro destra dalla loro sinistra, e una grande quantità di bestiame?. |
