| 2 | Jour de ténèbres et d'obscurité, jour de nuages et de sombre nuée ! Comme l'aurore qui s'étend sur les montagnes, un peuple vient, nombreux et fort, tel qu'il n'y en a jamais en depuis l'origine, et qu'il n'y en aura pas après lui, jusqu'aux années des âges les plus lointains. | a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness, as the dawn spread upon the mountains; a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after them, even to the years of many generations. |
| 3 | Devant lui le feu dévore, et derrière lui la flamme brûle. Le pays est comme un jardin d'Éden devant lui, et derrière lui, c'est un désert dévasté; rien ne lui échappe. | A fire devoureth before them; and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and none hath escaped them. |
| 4 | Son aspect est comme l'aspect des chevaux, et ils courent comme des cavaliers. | The appearance of them is as the appearance of horses; and as horsemen, so do they run. |
| 5 | On entend comme un bruit de chars, qui bondiraient sur les sommets des montagnes ! c'est comme le bruit de la flamme de feu, qui dévore le chaume ; c'est comme un peuple robuste, rangé en bataille. | Like the noise of chariots on the tops of the mountains do they leap, like the noise of a flame of fire that devoureth the stubble, as a strong people set in battle array. |
| 6 | Devant lui les peuples tremblent d'effroi, tous les visages pâlissent. | At their presence the peoples are in anguish; all faces are waxed pale. |
| 7 | Ils courent comme des héros ; ils escaladent la muraille comme des hommes de guerre ! Ils marchent chacun dans leurs sentiers, ils ne confondent pas leurs routes. | They run like mighty men; they climb the wall like men of war; and they march every one on his ways, and they break not their ranks. |
| 8 | Ils ne se poussent point les uns les autres, chacun va dans son chemin ; Ils se précipitent au travers des traits, et ils ne rompent point leurs rangs, | Neither doth one thrust another; they march every one in his path; and they burst through the weapons, and break not off [their course]. |
| 9 | Ils se répandent dans la ville, ils courent sur le mur, ils montent dans les maisons ; Ils entrent par les fenêtres, comme le voleur. | They leap upon the city; they run upon the wall; they climb up into the houses; they enter in at the windows like a thief. |
| 10 | Devant lui la terre tremble, les cieux s'ébranlent, le Soleil et la lune s'obscurcissent, les étoiles perdent leur éclat. | The earth quaketh before them; the heavens tremble; the sun and the moon are darkened, and the stars withdraw their shining. |
| 11 | Yahweh fait entendre sa voix à la tête de son année ; car immense est son camp, car puissant est l'exécuteur de sa parole. Car le jour de Yahweh est grand et très redoutable; et qui pourrait le soutenir ? | And Jehovah uttereth his voice before his army; for his camp is very great; for he is strong that executeth his word; for the day of Jehovah is great and very terrible; and who can abide it? |
| 12 | Mais maintenant encore -oracle de Yahweh, revenez à moi de tout votre coeur, avec des jeûnes avec des larmes et des lamentations. | Yet even now, saith Jehovah, turn ye unto me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: |
| 13 | Déchirez vos coeurs, et non vos vêtements, et revenez à Yahweh, votre Dieu; car il est miséricordieux et compatissant, lent à la colère et riche en bonté, et il s'afflige du mal qu'il envoie. | and rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto Jehovah your God; for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in lovingkindness, and repenteth him of the evil. |
| 14 | Qui sait s'il ne reviendra pas et ne se repentira pas, et s'il ne laissera pas après lui une bénédiction, l'offrande et la libation pour Yahweh, notre Dieu ? | Who knoweth whether he will not turn and repent, and leave a blessing behind him, even a meal-offering and a drink-offering unto Jehovah your God? |
| 15 | Sonnez de la trompette en Sion, publiez un jeûne, convoquez une assemblée. | Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly; |
| 16 | Assemblez le peuple, publiez une sainte réunion, rassemblez les vieillards, réunissez les enfants et les nourrissons à la mamelle. Que le nouvel époux quitte sa chambre, et l'épouse son pavillon. | gather the people, sanctify the assembly, assemble the old men, gather the children, and those that suck the breasts; let the bridegroom go forth from his chamber, and the bride out of her closet. |
| 17 | Qu'entre le portique et l'autel, les prêtres, ministres de Yahweh, pleurent, et qu'ils disent : "Yahweh, épargnez votre peuple, et ne livrez pas votre héritage à l'opprobre, pour être l'objet des moqueries des nations. Pourquoi dirait-on parmi les peuples Où est leur Dieu ?" | Let the priests, the ministers of Jehovah, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, Spare thy people, O Jehovah, and give not thy heritage to reproach, that the nations should rule over them: wherefore should they say among the peoples, Where is their God? |
| 18 | Yahweh a été ému de jalousie pour son pays, et il a eu pitié de son peuple. | Then was Jehovah jealous for his land, and had pity on his people. |
| 19 | Yahweh a répondu et dit à son peuple : Voici que je vais vous envoyer le blé, le vin nouveau et l'huile, et vous en serez rassasiés et je ne ferai plus de vous un sujet d'opprobre parmi les nations. | And Jehovah answered and said unto his people, Behold, I will send you grain, and new wine, and oil, and ye shall be satisfied therewith; and I will no more make you a reproach among the nations; |
| 20 | Celui qui vient du septentrion, je l'éloignerai de vous, et je le chasserai vers une terre aride et déserte, l'avant garde vers la mer Orientale, l'arrière-garde vers la mer occidentale ; il s'en élèvera une infection, et sa puanteur montera, car il a fait grand ! | but I will remove far off from you the northern [army], and will drive it into a land barren and desolate, its forepart into the eastern sea, and its hinder part into the western sea; and its stench shall come up, and its ill savor shall come up, because it hath done great things. |
| 21 | Terre, ne crains pas, sois dans l'allégresse et réjouis-toi ; car Yahweh a fait grand ! | Fear not, O land, be glad and rejoice; for Jehovah hath done great things. |
| 22 | Ne craignez point, bêtes des champs, car les pâturages du désert ont reverdi, car l'arbre porte son fruit, le figuier et la vigne donnent leurs richesses. | Be not afraid, ye beasts of the field; for the pastures of the wilderness do spring, for the tree beareth its fruit, the fig-tree and the vine do yield their strength. |
| 23 | Et vous, enfants de Sion, soyez dans l'allégresse et réjouissez-vous en Yahweh, votre Dieu ; car il vous a donné le docteur pour vous enseigner la justice, et il fait descendre pour vous l'ondée, pluie d'automne et pluie du printemps, comme autrefois. | Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in Jehovah your God; for he giveth you the former rain in just measure, and he causeth to come down for you the rain, the former rain and the latter rain, in the first [month]. |
| 24 | Vos aires se rempliront de froment, et les cuves regorgeront de vin nouveau et d'huile. | And the floors shall be full of wheat, and the vats shall overflow with new wine and oil. |
| 25 | Je vous compenserai les années qu'ont dévorées la sauterelle, le yélek, le chasil et le gazam, ma grande armée, que j'avais envoyée sur vous. | And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the canker-worm, and the caterpillar, and the palmer-worm, my great army which I sent among you. |
| 26 | Vous mangerez abondamment et vous serez rassasiés, et vous louerez le nom de Yahweh, votre Dieu, qui a fait pour vous des merveilles ; et mon peuple ne sera plus jamais confus. | And ye shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and shall praise the name of Jehovah your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you; and my people shall never be put to shame. |
| 27 | Et vous saurez que je suis au milieu d'Israël ! Moi, je suis Yahweh, votre Dieu, et il n'y en a point d'autre, et mon peuple ne sera plus jamais confus ! | And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am Jehovah your God, and there is none else; and my people shall never be put to shame. |
| 28 | Et il arrivera après cela que je répandrai mon Esprit sur tonte chair. Et vos fils et vos filles prophétiseront, vos vieillards auront des songes, vos jeunes gens verront des visions. | And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: |
| 29 | Même sur les serviteurs et sur les servantes, en ces jours-là je répandrai mon esprit. | and also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my Spirit. |
| 30 | Je ferai paraître des prodiges dans les cieux et sur la terre, du sang, du feu et des colonnes de fumée. | And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth: blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. |
| 31 | Le soleil se changera en ténèbres, et la lune en sang, avant que vienne le jour de Yahweh, grand et terrible. | The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of Jehovah cometh. |
| 32 | Et quiconque invoquera le nom de Yahweh sera sauvé; car sur la montagne de Sion et de Jérusalem, il y aura une réunion de sauvés, comme l'a dit Yahweh, et parmi les survivants que Yahweh appelle ! | And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of Jehovah shall be delivered; for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be those that escape, as Jehovah hath said, and among the remnant those whom Jehovah doth call. |
