| 2 | Écoutez ceci, vieillards ; prêtez l'oreille, vous tous habitants du pays ! Pareille chose est-elle arrivée de vos jours, ou bien dans les jours de vos pères ? | Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or in the days of your fathers? |
| 3 | Faites-en le récit à vos enfants, et vos enfants à leurs enfants, et leurs enfants à une autre génération. | Tell ye your children of it, and [let] your children [tell] their children, and their children another generation. |
| 4 | Ce qu'a laissé le gazam, la sauterelle l'a dévoré; ce qu'a laissé la sauterelle, le yéleq l'a dévoré; ce qu'a laissé le yéleq, le chasil l'a dévoré. | That which the palmer-worm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the canker-worm eaten; and that which the canker-worm hath left hath the caterpillar eaten. |
| 5 | Réveillez-vous, ivrognes, et pleurez; vous tous, buveurs de vin, lamentez-vous, à cause du vin nouveau ; car il vous est retiré de la bouche. | Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; and wail, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the sweet wine; for it is cut off from your mouth. |
| 6 | Car un peuple est monté sur mon pays, puissant et innombrable; ses dents sont des dents de lion, et il a des mâchoires de lionne. | For a nation is come up upon my land, strong, and without number; his teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the jaw-teeth of a lioness. |
| 7 | Il a dévasté ma vigne, et mis en morceaux mon figuier; Il les a pelés complètement et abattus; les rameaux sont devenus tout blancs. | He hath laid my vine waste, and barked my fig-tree: he hath made it clean bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white. |
| 8 | Désole-toi comme une vierge revêtue du sac, pour pleurer l'époux de sa jeunesse. | Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth. |
| 9 | Offrandes et libations ont été retranchées de la maison de Yahweh ; Ils sont dans le deuil les prêtres, ministres de Yahweh! | The meal-offering and the drink-offering are cut off from the house of Jehovah; the priests, Jehovah`s ministers, mourn. |
| 10 | Les champs sont ravagés, le sol est dans le deuil ; car le blé est détruit, le vin nouveau est dans la confusion, l'huile languit. | The field is laid waste, the land mourneth; for the grain is destroyed, the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth. |
| 11 | Soyez confus, laboureurs, lamentez-vous, vignerons, à cause du froment et de l'orge ; car la moisson des champs est anéantie. | Be confounded, O ye husbandmen, wail, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; for the harvest of the field is perished. |
| 12 | La vigne est dans la confusion, et les figuiers languissent ; le grenadier, et aussi le palmier et le pommier, tous les arbres des champs sont desséchés; la joie s'est retirée confuse, loin des enfants des hommes. | The vine is withered, and the fig-tree languisheth; the pomegranate-tree, the palm-tree also, and the apple-tree, even all the trees of the field are withered: for joy is withered away from the sons of men. |
| 13 | Prêtres, ceignez-vous et poussez des plaintes ; lamentez-vous, ministres de l'autel ! Venez, passez la nuit vêtus du sac, ministres de mon Dieu ; car l'offrande et la libation sont retenues loin de la maison de votre Dieu. | Gird yourselves [with sackcloth], and lament, ye priests; wail, ye ministers of the altar; come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meal-offering and the drink-offering are withholden from the house of your God. |
| 14 | Publiez un jeûne, convoquez une assemblée ; réunissez les anciens, tous ceux qui habitent le pays, dans la maison de Yahweh, votre Dieu, | Sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the old men [and] all the inhabitants of the land unto the house of Jehovah your God, and cry unto Jehovah. |
| 15 | et criez à Yahweh ; "Ah ! quel jour !..."Car le jour de Yahweh est proche ! Il vient comme un ravage, de la part du Tout-Puissant ! | Alas for the day! for the day of Jehovah is at hand, and as destruction from the Almighty shall it come. |
| 16 | La nourriture n'a-t-elle pas été retranchée sous nos yeux, ainsi que la joie et l'allégresse, de la maison de notre Dieu ? | Is not the food cut off before our eyes, [yea], joy and gladness from the house of our God? |
| 17 | Les semences ont séché sous leurs mottes ; les greniers sont vides, les magasins tombent en ruines, parce que le blé est dans la confusion. | The seeds rot under their clods; the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the grain is withered. |
| 18 | Comme tes bêtes gémissent ! Les troupeaux de boeufs sont effarés, parce qu'ils n'ont point de pâture; même les troupeaux de brebis pâtissent. | How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate. |
| 19 | Je crie vers vous, Yahweh; car le feu a dévoré les pâturages du désert, la flamme a brûlé tous les arbres des champs. | O Jehovah, to thee do I cry; for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field. |
| 20 | Les bêtes sauvages mêmes brament après vous, parce que les courants d'eau sont à sec, et que le feu a dévoré les pâturages du désert. | Yea, the beasts of the field pant unto thee; for the water brooks are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness. |
