Et toi, tu t'es prostituée à de nombreux amants, Et tu reviendrais vers moi! dit Jéhovah. | They say, If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man`s, will he return unto her again? will not that land be greatly polluted? But thou hast played the harlot with many lovers; yet return again to me, saith Jehovah. |
| 2 | Lève les yeux vers les hauteurs et regarde : Où n'as-tu pas été souillée ? … Tu les attendais assise sur les routes, Pareille à l'Arabe dans le désert, Et tu as profané le pays Par tes prostitutions et par ta méchanceté. | Lift up thine eyes unto the bare heights, and see; where hast thou not been lain with? By the ways hast thou sat for them, as an Arabian in the wilderness; and thou hast polluted the land with thy whoredoms and with thy wickedness. |
| 3 | Les ondées de l'automne ont été retenues, Les pluies du printemps ont manqué; Mais tu as eu un front de courtisane, Tu n'as pas voulu rougir. | Therefore the showers have been withholden, and there hath been no latter rain; yet thou hast a harlot`s forehead, thou refusedst to be ashamed. |
| 4 | Et maintenant, n'est-ce pas, tu me dis : "Mon père, vous êtes l'ami de ma jeunesse! Sera-t-il toujours irrité ? | Wilt thou not from this time cry unto me, My Father, thou art the guide of my youth? |
| 5 | Gardera-t-il à jamais son courroux ?"Voilà ce que tu dis, Et tu commets le crime et tu le consommes. | Will he retain [his anger] for ever? will he keep it to the end? Behold, thou hast spoken and hast done evil things, and hast had thy way. |
| 6 | Jéhovah me dit aux jours du roi Josias : As-tu vu ce qu'à fait Israël l'infidèle ? Elle est allée sur toute montagne élevée Et sous tout arbre vert, et s'y est prostituée. | Moreover Jehovah said unto me in the days of Josiah the king, Hast thou seen that which backsliding Israel hath done? she is gone up upon every high mountain and under every green tree, and there hath played the harlot. |
| 7 | Je disais : Après avoir fait toutes ces choses, elle reviendra à moi; Mais elle n'est pas revenue, - Et sa soeur, Juda la perfide, en a été témoin. | And I said after she had done all these things, She will return unto me; but she returned not: and her treacherous sister Judah saw it. |
| 8 | Et quoique j'eusse, à cause de tous ses adultères, Répudié Israël l'infidèle, et que je lui eusse donné sa lettre de divorce, J'ai vu que sa soeur, Juda la perfide, n'a pas été effrayée Et qu'elle est allée se prostituer, elle aussi. | And I saw, when, for this very cause that backsliding Israel had committed adultery, I had put her away and given her a bill of divorcement, yet treacherous Judah her sister feared not; but she also went and played the harlot. |
| 9 | Par sa bruyante impudicité, le pays a été profané, Et elle a commis l'impureté avec le bois et la pierre, | And it came to pass through the lightness of her whoredom, that the land was polluted, and she committed adultery with stones and with stocks. |
| 10 | Et avec tout cela sa soeur, Juda la perfide, N'est pas revenue à moi de tout son coeur, Mais avec mensonge, dit Jéhovah. | And yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah hath not returned unto me with her whole heart, but feignedly, saith Jehovah. |
| 11 | Jéhovah me dit : Israël l'infidèle s'est montrée juste En comparaison de Juda la perfide. | And Jehovah said unto me, Backsliding Israel hath showed herself more righteous than treacherous Judah. |
| 12 | Va, et crie ces paroles du côté du septentrion et dis : "Reviens, infidèle Israël, dit Jéhovah; Je ne veux pas vous montrer un visage sévère, Car je suis miséricordieux, dit Jéhovah, Et je ne garde pas ma colère à toujours. | Go, and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, Return, thou backsliding Israel, saith Jehovah; I will not look in anger upon you; for I am merciful, saith Jehovah, I will not keep [anger] for ever. |
| 13 | Seulement reconnais ta faute, Car tu as été infidèle à Jéhovah ton Dieu, Et tu as prodigué tes pas vers les étrangers, Sous ton arbre vert, Et tu n'as pas écouté ma voix, dit Jéhovah, | Only acknowledge thine iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against Jehovah thy God, and hast scattered thy ways to the strangers under every green tree, and ye have not obeyed my voice, saith Jehovah. |
| 14 | Revenez, fils infidèles, dit Jéhovah, Car je suis votre maître, Et je vous prendrai, un d'une ville et deux d'une famille, Et vous amènerai dans Sion. | Return, O backsliding children, saith Jehovah; for I am a husband unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion: |
| 15 | Et je vous donnerai des pasteurs selon mon coeur, Qui vous paîtront avec intelligence et sagesse. | and I will give you shepherds according to my heart, who shall feed you with knowledge and understanding. |
| 16 | Et quand vous aurez multiplié et fructifié dans le pays, En ces jours-là, dit Jéhovah, alors on ne dira plus : "L'arche de l'alliance de Jéhovah!"Elle ne reviendra plus à la pensée, On ne s'en souviendra plus, on ne la regrettera plus, Et on n'en fera plus une autre. | And it shall come to pass, when ye are multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, saith Jehovah, they shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of Jehovah; neither shall it come to mind; neither shall they remember it; neither shall they miss it; neither shall it be made any more. |
| 17 | En ce temps-là on appellera Jérusalem le trône de Jéhovah! Et toutes les nations s'y assembleront Au nom de Jéhovah dans Jérusalem, Et elles ne suivront plus l'obstination de leur mauvais coeur. | At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of Jehovah; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of Jehovah, to Jerusalem: neither shall they walk any more after the stubbornness of their evil heart. |
| 18 | En ces jours-là, la maison de Juda marchera avec la maison d'Israël, Et elles viendront ensemble du pays du septentrion Au pays dont j'ai donné l'héritage à vos pères. | In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel, and they shall come together out of the land of the north to the land that I gave for an inheritance unto your fathers. |
| 19 | Et moi je disais : Où te placerai-je parmi mes enfants ? Je te donnerai un pays de délices, Le plus beau joyau des nations pour héritage; Et j'ai dit : Vous m'appellerez "Mon père", Et vous ne cesserez pas de me suivre. | But I said, How I will put thee among the children, and give thee a pleasant land, a goodly heritage of the hosts of the nations! and I said, Ye shall call me My Father, and shall not turn away from following me. |
| 20 | Mais comme une femme trahit son amant, Ainsi vous m'avez été infidèle, Maison d'Israël, dit Jéhovah. | Surely as a wife treacherously departeth from her husband, so have ye dealt treacherously with me, O house of Israel, saith Jehovah. |
| 21 | Une clameur se fait entendre sur les lieux élevés, Les pleurs des enfants d'Israël demandant grâce, Parce qu'ils ont perverti leur voie, Oublié Jéhovah leur Dieu.-- | A voice is heard upon the bare heights, the weeping [and] the supplications of the children of Israel; because they have perverted their way, they have forgotten Jehovah their God. |
| 22 | Revenez, fils infidèles, Et je guérirai vos infidélités. - Nous voici, nous , venons à vous, Car vous êtes Jéhovah notre Dieu. | Return, ye backsliding children, I will heal your backslidings. Behold, we are come unto thee; for thou art Jehovah our God. |
| 23 | Oui, c'est en vain que retentissait sur les hauteurs, Sur les montagnes le tumulte des fêtes idolâtres. Oui, c'est en Jéhovah qu'est le salut d'Israël. | Truly in vain is [the help that is looked for] from the hills, the tumult on the mountains: truly in Jehovah our God is the salvation of Israel. |
| 24 | Les idoles ont dévoré dès notre jeunesse Le produit du travail de nos, pères, Leurs brebis et leurs boeufs, Leurs fils et leurs filles. | But the shameful thing hath devoured the labor of our fathers from our youth, their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters. |
| 25 | Couchons-nous dans notre ignominie, Et que notre honte nous couvre! -Car c'est contre Jéhovah notre Dieu Que nous avons péché, nous et nos pères, Dès notre jeunesse et jusqu'à ce jour, Et nous n'avons pas écouté la voix de Jéhovah notre Dieu. | Let us lie down in our shame, and let our confusion cover us; for we have sinned against Jehovah our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even unto this day; and we have not obeyed the voice of Jehovah our God. |
