And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. | Elle enfanta encore son frère Abel qu'elle considérait insignifiant; et Abel (renoncement, soumission, abaissement) dirigeait la conversion des êtres vivants, mais Caïn gardait les hommes sous l'esclavage. |
| 3 | And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD. | Or, au bout de quelque temps, Caïn proposa la délivrance des hommes en offrande à l'Éternel; |
| 4 | And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering: | Et Abel présenta, le droit d'aînesse de la conversion et de son enrichissement. Et l'Éternel eut égard à Abel, et à son offrande; |
| 5 | But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell. | Mais il n'eut point égard à Caïn, ni à son offrande; et Caïn s'enflamma de colère, et sa présence fut disgraciée (NAPHAL). |
| 6 | And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? | Et l'Éternel dit à Caïn: Voici tu t'es enflammé, et ainsi ta présence est rejetée (NAPHAL). |
| 7 | If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him. | Si tu fais bien, ta présence ne sera-t-elle pas restaurée? Mais, si tu ne fais pas bien, le péché est couché à la porte, et son désir devient le tien; et toi, tu en seras le maître |
| 8 | And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him. | Et Caïn parla à Abel, son frère. Et comme ils étaient dans l’expansion de leur existence, Caïn s'éleva contre Abel son frère, et le tua. |
| 9 | And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper? | Et l'Éternel dit à Caïn: Où est Abel ton frère? Et il répondit: Je ne sais; suis-je le gardien de mon frère, moi? |
| 10 | And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground. | Et l'Éternel dit: Qu'as-tu fait? La voix du sang de ton frère crie de la terre jusqu'à moi. |
| 11 | And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand; | Et maintenant tu seras exilé de la terre, qui a ouvert sa bouche pour recevoir de ta main le sang de ton frère. |
| 12 | When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth. | Quand tu exploiteras la terre, elle ne te rendra plus son fruit; tu seras vagabond et fugitif de la terre. |
| 13 | And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear. | Et Caïn dit à l'Éternel: Ma peine est trop grande pour être supportée. |
| 14 | Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me. | Voici, tu m'as chassé aujourd'hui de la présence de l'homme, et je serai soustrait de devant ta présence, et je serai vagabond et fugitif de la terre; et il arrivera que quiconque me trouvera, me tuera. |
| 15 | And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him. | Et l'Éternel lui dit: C'est pourquoi, si quelqu'un tue Caïn, Caïn sera vengé sept fois. Et l'Éternel mit à Caïn une marque prodigieuse, afin que quiconque le trouverait ne le tuât point. |
| 16 | And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden. | Alors Caïn renonça à la présence de l'Éternel, et habita dans l'astre errant de Nod (errer, planète), et s'éleva contre la Grâce de Dieu. |
| 17 | And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch. | Puis, en ce lieu, Caïn réalisa son existence, qui conçut et engendra une initiation à une nouvelle naissance; et il érigea une vengeance terrible contre Dieu, qu'il appela Hénoc, du nom de sa condition de disgrâce |
| 18 | And unto Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begat Mehujael: and Mehujael begat Methusael: and Methusael begat Lamech. | Puis Irad (la séquestration) naquit à Hénoc, et Irad engendra Mehujaël (affligé de Dieu), et Mehujaël engendra Methushaël (l'homme divinisé), et Methushaël engendra Lémec (le renversement de l'être). |
| 19 | And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah. | Et Lémec prit deux femmes: le nom de l'une était Ada (plaisir), le nom de l'autre Tsilla (protection). |
| 20 | And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle. | Et Ada enfanta Jabal (fastueux); il fut père de ceux qui demeurent dans des sanctuaires et près des rachetés. |
| 21 | And his brother's name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ. | Et le nom de son frère était Jubal (une source); il fut père de tous ceux qui manipulent le retentissement (harpe) de la sensualité (chalumeau). |
| 22 | And Zillah, she also bare Tubalcain, an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tubalcain was Naamah. | Et Tsilla, elle aussi, enfanta Tubal-Caïn (le producteur), qui affinait (forgeait) tous les complots et les enchantements qui se transpirent; et la soeur de Tubal-Caïn fut Naama (séduisante). |
| 23 | And Lamech said unto his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice; ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech: for I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt. | Et Lémec dit à ses femmes: Ada et Tsilla, écoutez ma voix; femmes de Lémec, prêtez l'oreille à ma parole: Oui! j'ai tué un homme pour ma séparation d'avec Dieu, et un jeune homme pour mon attachement à Cain. |
| 24 | If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold. | Car si Caïn est vengé sept fois contre Dieu, Lémec le sera soixante-dix-sept fois. |
| 25 | And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew. | Et Adam connut encore sa femme; et elle enfanta un fils et l'appela Seth (substitut, renommée); car Dieu, dit-elle, m'a donné un autre fils au lieu d'Abel, que Caïn a tué. |
| 26 | And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the LORD. | Et un fils naquit aussi à Seth, et il l'appela Énosh (la défaillance). Alors les hommes commencèrent à invoquer le nom de l'Éternel pour être délivré. |
