| 2 | These are the generations of Jacob. Joseph, being seventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his brethren; and he was a lad with the sons of Bilhah, and with the sons of Zilpah, his father`s wives: and Joseph brought the evil report of them unto their father. | Questa è la discendenza di Giacobbe. Giuseppe, all'età di diciassette anni, pascolava il gregge coi suoi fratelli; il giovinetto stava con i figli di Bilhah e con i figli di Zilpah mogli di suo padre. Or Giuseppe riferì al loro padre la mala fama che circolava sul loro conto. |
| 3 | Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colors. | Or Israele amava Giuseppe più di tutti i suoi figli, perché era il figlio della sua vecchiaia; e gli fece una veste lunga fino ai piedi. |
| 4 | And his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren; and they hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him. | Ma i suoi fratelli, vedendo che il loro padre lo amava più di tutti gli altri fratelli, presero ad odiarlo e non gli potevano parlare in modo amichevole. |
| 5 | And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it to his brethren: and they hated him yet the more. | Or Giuseppe fece un sogno e lo raccontò ai suoi fratelli; e questi lo odiarono ancora di più. |
| 6 | And he said unto them, Hear, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed: | Egli disse loro: Udite, vi prego, il sogno che ho fatto. |
| 7 | for, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves came round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf. | Noi stavamo legando dei covoni in mezzo al campo, quand'ecco il mio covone si drizzò e rimase dritto, mentre i vostri covoni si raccolsero e si inchinarono davanti al mio covone. |
| 8 | And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us? Or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words. | Allora i suoi fratelli gli dissero: Dovrai tu regnare su di noi, o dovrai tu veramente dominarci?. E lo odiarono ancor di più, a motivo dei suoi sogni e delle sue parole. |
| 9 | And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it to his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed yet a dream: and, behold, the sun and the moon and eleven stars made obeisance to me. | Egli fece ancora un altro sogno e lo raccontò ai suoi fratelli, dicendo: Ho fatto un altro sogno! Ed ecco il sole, la luna e undici stelle si inchinavano davanti a me. |
| 10 | And he told it to his father, and to his brethren; and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth? | Egli lo raccontò a suo padre e ai suoi fratelli; e suo padre lo rimproverò e gli disse: Cosa significa questo sogno che hai fatto? Dovremo proprio io, tua madre e i tuoi fratelli venire a inchinarci a terra davanti a te?. |
| 11 | And his brethren envied him; but his father kept the saying in mind. | E i suoi fratelli gli portavano invidia ma suo padre serbava la cosa dentro di sé, |
| 12 | And his brethren went to feed their father`s flock in Shechem. | Or i fratelli di Giuseppe erano a pascolare il gregge del padre a Sichem. |
| 13 | And Israel said unto Joseph, Are not thy brethren feeding the flock in Shechem? Come, and I will send thee unto them. And he said to him, Here am I. | E Israele disse a Giuseppe: I tuoi fratelli non stanno forse pascolando il gregge a Sichem? Vieni, che ti manderò da loro. Egli rispose: Eccomi. |
| 14 | And he said to him, Go now, see whether it is well with thy brethren, and well with the flock; and bring me word again. So he sent him out of the vale of Hebron, and he came to Shechem. | Israele gli disse: Va' a vedere se i tuoi fratelli stanno bene e se il gregge va bene, e poi torna a riferirmelo. Così lo mandò dalla valle di Hebron, ed egli arrivò a Sichem. |
| 15 | And a certain man found him, and, behold, he was wandering in the field: and the man asked him, saying, What seekest thou? | Mentre egli vagava per la campagna, un uomo lo trovò e gli chiese: Che cerchi?. |
| 16 | And he said, I am seeking my brethren: tell me, I pray thee, where they are feeding [the flock]. | Egli rispose: Sto cercando i miei fratelli; per favore, dimmi dove si trovano a pascolare. |
| 17 | And the man said, They are departed hence; for I heard them say, Let us go to Dothan. And Joseph went after his brethren, and found them in Dothan. | Quell'uomo gli disse: Son partiti di qui, perché li ho sentiti dire: "Andiamo a Dothan". Allora Giuseppe andò in cerca dei suoi fratelli, e li trovò a Dothan. |
| 18 | And they saw him afar off, and before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to slay him. | Essi lo scorsero da lontano e, prima che fosse loro vicino, complottarono contro di lui per ucciderlo. |
| 19 | And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer cometh. | E dissero l'un l'altro: Ecco che arriva il sognatore! |
| 20 | Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into one of the pits, and we will say, And evil beast hath devoured him: and we shall see what will become of his dreams. | Ora dunque venite, uccidiamolo e gettiamolo in un pozzo; diremo poi che una bestia feroce lo ha divorato; così vedremo che ne sarà dei suoi sogni. |
| 21 | And Reuben heard it, and delivered him out of their hand, and said, Let us not take his life. | Ruben udì questo e decise di liberarlo dalle loro mani, e disse: Non gli togliamo la vita. |
| 22 | And Reuben said unto them, Shed no blood; cast him into this pit that is in the wilderness, but lay no hand upon him: that he might deliver him out of their hand, to restore him to his father. | Poi Ruben aggiunse: Non spargete sangue, ma gettatelo in questo pozzo nel deserto e non colpitelo di vostra mano. Diceva così, per liberarlo dalle loro mani e riportarlo a suo padre. |
| 23 | And it came to pass, when Joseph was come unto his brethren, that they stripped Joseph of his coat, the coat of many colors that was on him; | Quando Giuseppe fu giunto presso i suoi fratelli, lo spogliarono della sua veste, della lunga veste fino ai piedi che indossava; |
| 24 | and they took him, and cast him into the pit: and the pit was empty, there was no water in it. | poi lo presero e lo gettarono nel pozzo. Or il pozzo era vuoto, senz'acqua dentro. |
| 25 | And they sat down to eat bread: and they lifted up their eyes and looked, and, behold, a caravan of Ishmaelites was coming from Gilead, with their camels bearing spicery and balm and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt. | Poi si misero a sedere per prendere cibo; ma, alzando gli occhi, ecco videro una carovana di Ismaeliti, che veniva da Galaad coi loro cammelli carichi di spezie, di balsamo e di mirra, in viaggio per portarli in Egitto. |
| 26 | And Judah said unto his brethren, What profit is it if we slay our brother and conceal his blood? | Allora Giuda disse ai suoi fratelli: Che guadagno avremo a uccidere nostro fratello e a nascondere il suo sangue? |
| 27 | Come, and let us sell him to the Ishmaelites, and let not our hand be upon him; for he is our brother, our flesh. And his brethren hearkened unto him. | Venite, vendiamolo agli Ismaeliti e non lo colpisca la nostra mano, perché è nostro fratello, nostra carne. E i suoi fratelli gli diedero ascolto. |
| 28 | And there passed by Midianites, merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver. And they brought Joseph into Egypt. | Come quei mercanti Madianiti passavano, essi sollevarono e tirarono Giuseppe fuori dal pozzo e lo vendettero agli Ismaeliti per venti sicli d'argento. E questi condussero Giuseppe in Egitto. |
| 29 | And Reuben returned unto the pit; and, behold, Joseph was not in the pit; and he rent his clothes. | Or Ruben tornò al pozzo, ed ecco, Giuseppe non era più nel pozzo. Allora egli si stracciò le vesti. |
| 30 | And he returned unto his brethren, and said, The child is not; and I, whither shall I go? | Poi tornò dai suoi fratelli e disse: Il fanciullo non c'è più; e io, dove andrò io?. |
| 31 | And they took Joseph`s coat, and killed a he-goat, and dipped the coat in the blood; | Così essi presero la lunga veste di Giuseppe, uccisero un capro e immersero la veste nel sangue. |
| 32 | and they sent the coat of many colors, and they brought it to their father, and said, This have we found: know now whether it is thy son`s coat or not. | Poi portarono la lunga veste dal padre e dissero: Abbiamo trovato questo; vedi un po' se è la veste di tuo figlio. |
| 33 | And he knew it, and said, It is my son`s coat: an evil beast hath devoured him; Joseph is without doubt torn in pieces. | Ed egli la riconobbe e disse: la veste di mio figlio; lo ha divorato una bestia feroce; certamente Giuseppe è stato sbranato. |
| 34 | And Jacob rent his garments, and put sackcloth upon his loins, and mourned for his son many days. | Giacobbe allora si stracciò le vesti, si mise un cilicio ai fianchi e fece cordoglio di suo figlio per molti giorni. |
| 35 | And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted; and he said, For I will go down to Sheol to my son mourning. And his father wept for him. | E tutti i suoi figli e tutte le sue figlie vennero a consolarlo; ma egli rifiutò di essere consolato e disse: Io scenderò nello Sceol da mio figlio facendo cordoglio. Così suo padre lo pianse. |
| 36 | And the Midianites sold him into Egypt unto Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh`s, the captain of the guard. | Intanto i Madianiti vendettero Giuseppe in Egitto a Potifar, ufficiale del Faraone e capitano delle guardie. |
