And she said, If it be so, wherefore do I live? | 23 | Et l'Eternel lui dit: Deux nations sont dans ton ventre, et deux peuples sortiront de tes entrailles; et un peuple sera plus fort que l'autre peuple, et le plus grand sera asservi au moindre. | And Jehovah said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, And two peoples shall be separated from thy bowels. And the one people shall be stronger than the other people. And the elder shall serve the younger. | E l'Eterno le disse: Due nazioni sono nel tuo grembo, e due popoli separati usciranno dalle tue viscere. Uno dei due popoli sarà più forte dell'altro, e il maggiore servirà il minore. |
| 24 | Et quand son temps d'enfanter fut accompli, voici il y avait deux jumeaux en son ventre. | And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb. | Quando venne per lei il tempo di partorire, ecco che ella aveva in grembo due gemelli. |
| 25 | Celui qui sortit le premier, était roux, et tout velu, comme un manteau de poil: et ils appelèrent son nom Esaü. | And the first came forth red, all over like a hairy garment. And they called his name Esau. | E il primo che uscì fuori era rosso; egli era tutto quanto come un mantello peloso; così lo chiamarono Esaù. |
| 26 | Et ensuite sortit son frère, tenant de sa main le talon d'Esaü; c'est pourquoi il fut appelé Jacob. Or Isaac était âgé de soixante ans quand ils naquirent. | And after that came forth his brother, and his hand had hold on Esau`s heel. And his name was called Jacob. And Isaac was threescore years old when she bare them. | Dopo uscì suo Fratello, che con la mano teneva il calcagno di Esaù; così lo chiamarono Giacobbe. Or Isacco aveva settant'anni quando Rebecca li partorì. |
| 27 | Depuis, les enfants devinrent grands, et Esaü était un habile chasseur, et homme de campagne; mais Jacob était un homme intègre et se tenant dans les tentes. | And the boys grew. And Esau was a skilful hunter, a man of the field. And Jacob was a quiet man, dwelling in tents. | I due fanciulli crebbero ed Esaù divenne un esperto cacciatore, un uomo di campagna, mentre Giacobbe era un uomo tranquillo, che viveva nelle tende. |
| 28 | Et Isaac aimait Esaü; car la venaison était sa viande. Mais Rébecca aimait Jacob. | Now Isaac loved Esau, because he did eat of his venison. And Rebekah loved Jacob. | Or Isacco amava Esaù, perché la cacciagione era di suo gusto; Rebecca invece amava Giacobbe. |
| 29 | Or comme Jacob cuisait du potage, Esaü arriva des champs, et il était las. | And Jacob boiled pottage. And Esau came in from the field, and he was faint. | Una volta che Giacobbe si cucinò una zuppa, Esaù giunse dai campi tutto stanco. |
| 30 | Et Esaü dit à Jacob: Donne-moi, je te prie, à manger de ce roux, de ce roux; car je suis las. C'est pourquoi on appela son nom, Edom. | And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red [pottage]. For I am faint. Therefore was his name called Edom. | Ed Esaù disse a Giacobbe: Per favore, lasciami mangiare un po' di questa zuppa rossa, perché sono stanco. Per questo fu chiamato Edom. |
| 31 | Mais Jacob lui dit: Vends-moi aujourd'hui ton droit d'aînesse. | And Jacob said, Sell me first thy birthright. | Ma Giacobbe gli rispose: Vendimi prima la tua primogenitura. |
| 32 | Et Esaü répondit: Voici je m'en vais mourir; et de quoi me servira le droit d'aînesse? | And Esau said, Behold, I am about to die. And what profit shall the birthright do to me? | Esaù disse: Ecco io sto per morire; che mi giova la primogenitura?. |
| 33 | Et Jacob dit: Jure-moi aujourd'hui; et il lui jura; ainsi il vendit son droit d'aînesse à Jacob. | And Jacob said, Swear to me first. And he sware unto him. And he sold his birthright unto Jacob. | Allora Giacobbe disse: Prima, giuramelo. Ed Esaù glielo giurò e vendette la sua primogenitura Giacobbe. |
| 34 | Et Jacob donna à Esaü du pain, et du potage de lentilles; et il mangea, et but; puis il se leva, et s'en alla; ainsi Esaü méprisa son droit d'aînesse. | And Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentils. And he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way. So Esau despised his birthright. | Quindi Giacobbe diede a Esaù del pane e della zuppa di lenticchie. Ed egli mangiò e bevve; poi si alzò e se ne andò. Così Esaù disprezzò la sa primogenitura. |
