| 1 | If a man shall steal an ox, or a sheep, and kill it, or sell it; he shall restore five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep. | Se uno ruba un bue o una pecora e li ammazza o li vende, restituirà cinque buoi per il bue e quattro pecore per la pecora. |
| 2 | If a thief be found breaking up, and be smitten that he die, there shall no blood be shed for him. | Se il ladro, colto nell'atto di fare uno scasso, è percosso e muore, il proprietario non è colpevole di omicidio nei suoi confronti. |
| 3 | If the sun be risen upon him, there shall be blood shed for him; for he should make full restitution; if he have nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft. | Se il sole si era già alzato quando avvenne il fatto, egli è colpevole di omicidio. Il ladro dovrà risarcire il danno; se non ha di che risarcirlo, sarà venduto per il furto da lui fatto. |
| 4 | If the theft be certainly found in his hand alive, whether it be ox, or ass, or sheep; he shall restore double. | Se la cosa rubata bue o asino o pecora che sia, è trovata viva nelle sue mani, restituirà il doppio. |
| 5 | If a man shall cause a field or vineyard to be eaten, and shall put in his beast, and shall feed in another man's field; of the best of his own field, and of the best of his own vineyard, shall he make restitution. | Se uno danneggia un campo o una vigna, lasciando andare le sue bestie a pascolare nel campo di un altro, risarcirà il danno col meglio del suo campo e col meglio della sua vigna. |
| 6 | If fire break out, and catch in thorns, so that the stacks of corn, or the standing corn, or the field, be consumed therewith; he that kindled the fire shall surely make restitution. | Se un fuoco si propaga e si estende alle spine si che viene bruciato il grano in covoni o il grano in piedi o il campo, chi ha acceso il fuoco dovrà risarcire il danno. |
| 7 | If a man shall deliver unto his neighbour money or stuff to keep, and it be stolen out of the man's house; if the thief be found, let him pay double. | Se uno affida al suo vicino del denaro o degli oggetti da custodire, e questi sono rubati dalla casa di questo tale, se si trova il ladro, restituirà il doppio. |
| 8 | If the thief be not found, then the master of the house shall be brought unto the judges, to see whether he have put his hand unto his neighbour's goods. | Se il ladro non si trova, il padrone della casa sarà portato davanti a DIO per giurare che non ha messo la sua mano sui beni del suo vicino. |
| 9 | For all manner of trespass, whether it be for ox, for ass, for sheep, for raiment, or for any manner of lost thing which another challengeth to be his, the cause of both parties shall come before the judges; and whom the judges shall condemn, he shall pay double unto his neighbour. | Per qualsiasi genere di reato, sia che si tratti di un bue, di un asino, di una pecora, di un vestito o di qualunque oggetto perduto che un altro afferma essere suo, a causa di ambedue le parti verrà davanti a DIO; colui che DIO condannerà, restituirà il doppio al suo vicino. |
| 10 | If a man deliver unto his neighbour an ass, or an ox, or a sheep, or any beast, to keep; and it die, or be hurt, or driven away, no man seeing it: | Se uno dà in custodia al suo vicino un asino o un bue o una pecora o qualunque altra bestia, ed essa muore o è ferita o è portata via senza che nessuno veda, |
| 11 | Then shall an oath of the LORD be between them both, that he hath not put his hand unto his neighbour's goods; and the owner of it shall accept thereof, and he shall not make it good. | ci sarà fra le due parti un giuramento davanti all'Eterno per sapere se il depositario non ha messo la sua mano sui beni del suo vicino. Il padrone della cosa accetterà il giuramento, e l'altro non sarà tenuto al risarcimento di danni. |
| 12 | And if it be stolen from him, he shall make restitution unto the owner thereof. | Ma se la cosa gli è stata rubata, egli dovrà risarcire del danno il padrone di essa. |
| 13 | If it be torn in pieces, then let him bring it for witness, and he shall not make good that which was torn. | Se la bestia è stata sbranata, la porterà come prova, e non sarà tenuto al risarcimento per la bestia sbranata. |
| 14 | And if a man borrow ought of his neighbour, and it be hurt, or die, the owner thereof being not with it, he shall surely make it good. | Se uno prende in prestito dal suo vicino una bestia, e questa si ferisce o muore quando il suo padrone non è presente, egli dovrà risarcire il danno. |
| 15 | But if the owner thereof be with it, he shall not make it good: if it be an hired thing, it came for his hire. | Se il padrone è presente, non dovrà risarcire i danni; se la bestia è stata presa a nolo, essa è compresa nel prezzo del nolo. |
| 16 | And if a man entice a maid that is not betrothed, and lie with her, he shall surely endow her to be his wife. | Se uno seduce una fanciulla non ancora fidanzata e si corica con lei, dovrà pagare per la sua dote e prenderla per moglie. |
| 17 | If her father utterly refuse to give her unto him, he shall pay money according to the dowry of virgins. | Se il padre di lei rifiuta assolutamente di dargliela, pagherà la somma richiesta per la dote delle vergini. |
| 18 | Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. | Non lascerai vivere la strega. |
| 19 | Whosoever lieth with a beast shall surely be put to death. | Chi si accoppia con un bestia dovrà essere messo a morte. |
| 20 | He that sacrificeth unto any god, save unto the LORD only, he shall be utterly destroyed. | Chi sacrifica a un altro dio, all'infuori del solo Eterno, sarà sterminato. |
| 21 | Thou shalt neither vex a stranger, nor oppress him: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt. | Non maltratterai lo straniero e non l'opprimerai perché anche voi foste stranieri nel paese d'Egitto. |
| 22 | Ye shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child. | Non opprimerai alcuna vedova, né alcun orfano. |
| 23 | If thou afflict them in any wise, and they cry at all unto me, I will surely hear their cry; | Se in qualche modo li opprimi ed essi gridano a me, io udrò senza dubbio il loro grido; |
| 24 | And my wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless. | la mia ira si accenderà e io vi ucciderò con la spada; le vostre mogli diventeranno vedove e i vostri figli orfani. |
| 25 | If thou lend money to any of my people that is poor by thee, thou shalt not be to him as an usurer, neither shalt thou lay upon him usury. | Se tu presti del denaro ad alcuno del mio popolo, al povero che è con te, non lo tratterai da usuraio; non gli imporrai alcun interesse. |
| 26 | If thou at all take thy neighbour's raiment to pledge, thou shalt deliver it unto him by that the sun goeth down: | Se prendi in pegno il vestito del tuo vicino, glielo renderai prima che tramonti il sole, |
| 27 | For that is his covering only, it is his raiment for his skin: wherein shall he sleep? and it shall come to pass, when he crieth unto me, that I will hear; for I am gracious. | perché esso è l'unica sua coperta e la veste con cui si avvolge il corpo. In cos'altro dormirebbe egli? E se avverrà che egli gridi a me, io lo udrò, perché sono misericordioso. |
| 28 | Thou shalt not revile the gods, nor curse the ruler of thy people. | Non bestemmierai DIO e non maledirai il principe del tuo popolo. |
| 29 | Thou shalt not delay to offer the first of thy ripe fruits, and of thy liquors: the firstborn of thy sons shalt thou give unto me. | Non indugerai a offrirmi il tributo del tuo raccolto e di ciò che cola dai tuoi strettoi. Mi darai il primogenito dei tuoi figli. |
| 30 | Likewise shalt thou do with thine oxen, and with thy sheep: seven days it shall be with his dam; on the eighth day thou shalt give it me. | Lo stesso farai del tuo bue e della tua pecora: il loro primo parto rimarrà sette giorni presso la madre; l'ottavo giorno me lo darai. |
| 31 | And ye shall be holy men unto me: neither shall ye eat any flesh that is torn of beasts in the field; ye shall cast it to the dogs. | Voi mi sarete degli uomini santi; non mangerete carne di alcun animale sbranato nei campi; gettatela ai cani. |
