| 2 | Then rose up Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and began to build the house of God which is at Jerusalem; and with them were the prophets of God, helping them. | Allora Zorobabel, figlio di Scealtiel, e Jeshua, figlio di Jotsadak, si levarono e cominciarono a costruire la casa di Dio a Gerusalemme; e con essi erano i profeti di Dio, che li aiutavano. |
| 3 | At the same time came to them Tattenai, the governor beyond the River, and Shethar-bozenai, and their companions, and said thus unto them, Who gave you a decree to build this house, and to finish this wall? | In quel tempo giunsero da loro Tattenai, governatore della regione oltre il Fiume, Scethar-Boznai e i loro colleghi e parlarono loro così: Chi vi ha dato ordine di edificare questo tempio, e di ricostruire queste mura?. |
| 4 | Then we told them after this manner, what the names of the men were that were making this building. | Poi noi dicemmo loro quali erano i nomi degli uomini che costruivano questo edificio. |
| 5 | But the eye of their God was upon the elders of the Jews, and they did not make them cease, till the matter should come to Darius, and then answer should be returned by letter concerning it. | Ma sugli anziani dei Giudei vegliava l'occhio del loro Dio; e quelli non poterono farli smettere finché non fosse inviato a Dario un rapporto e non venisse una risposta in merito. |
| 6 | The copy of the letter that Tattenai, the governor beyond the River, and Shethar-bozenai, and his companions the Apharsachites, who were beyond the River, sent unto Darius the king; | Questa è una copia della lettera mandata al re Dario da Tattenai, governatore della regione oltre il Fiume, da Scethar-Boznai e dai suoi colleghi, gli Afarsekiti, che erano oltre il Fiume. |
| 7 | they sent a letter unto him, wherein was written thus: Unto Darius the king, all peace. | Gli inviarono una lettera scritta in questo modo: Al re Dario, perfetta salute! |
| 8 | Be it known unto the king, that we went into the province of Judah, to the house of the great God, which is builded with great stones, and timber is laid in the walls; and this work goeth on with diligence and prospereth in their hands. | Sia noto al re che noi siamo andati nella provincia di Giuda, al tempio del grande Dio. | 11 | And thus they returned us answer, saying, We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and are building the house that was builded these many years ago, which a great king of Israel builded and finished. | Ed essi ci hanno così risposto, dicendo: "Noi siamo i servi del Dio del cielo e della terra e riedifichiamo il tempio che era stato edificato molti anni fa; un grande re d'Israele l'aveva edificato e portato a termine. |
| 12 | But after that our fathers had provoked the God of heaven unto wrath, he gave them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, the Chaldean, who destroyed this house, and carried the people away into Babylon. | Avendo però i nostri padri provocato ad ira il Dio del cielo, egli li diede in mano di Nebukadnetsar, re di Babilonia, il Caldeo, il quale distrusse questo tempio e deportò il popolo a Babilonia. |
| 13 | But in the first year of Cyrus king of Babylon, Cyrus the king made a decree to build this house of God. | Ma nel primo anno di Ciro, re di Babilonia, il re Ciro diede ordine di costruire questa casa a Dio. |
| 14 | And the gold and silver vessels also of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar took out of the temple that was in Jerusalem, and brought into the temple of Babylon, those did Cyrus the king take out of the temple of Babylon, and they were delivered unto one whose name was Sheshbazzar, whom he had made governor; | Inoltre il re Ciro tirò fuori dal tempio di Babilonia gli utensili d'oro e d'argento della casa di Dio, che Nebukadnetsar aveva tolto dal tempio di Gerusalemme e portato nel tempio di Babilonia, e li fece consegnare a uno chiamato Sceshbatsar, che egli aveva fatto governatore, |
| 15 | and he said unto him, Take these vessels, go, put them in the temple that is in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be builded in its place. | dicendogli: Prendi questi utensili e va' a riporli nel tempio che è in Gerusalemme, e la casa di Dio sia riedificata nel suo luogo. |
| 16 | Then came the same Sheshbazzar, and laid the foundations of the house of God which is in Jerusalem: and since that time even until now hath it been in building, and yet it is not completed. | Allora lo stesso Sceshbatsar venne e gettò le fondamenta della casa di Dio che è in Gerusalemme; da quel tempo fino ad ora essa è in costruzione, ma non è ancora finita". |
| 17 | Now therefore, if it seem good to the king, let there be search made in the king`s treasure-house, which is there at Babylon, whether it be so, that a decree was made of Cyrus the king to build this house of God at Jerusalem; and let the king send his pleasure to us concerning this matter. | Perciò ora, se così piace al re, si facciano ricerche nella casa dei tesori del re che è in Babilonia, per vedere se il re Ciro ha veramente emesso un ordine di costruire questa casa di Dio a Gerusalemme; e il re ci faccia pervenire la sua decisione in proposito. |
