| 1 | Approchez, nations, pour entendre; et vous, peuples, soyez attentifs! Que la terre écoute et tout ce qu'elle écoute et tout ce qu'elle contient, le monde et tout ce qu'il produit! | Come near, ye nations, to hear; and hearken, ye peoples: let the earth hear, and the fulness thereof; the world, and all things that come forth from it. |
| 2 | Car la colère de l'Éternel est sur toutes les nations, et sa fureur sur toutes leurs armées. Il les a vouées à la destruction; il les a livrées au carnage; | For Jehovah hath indignation against all the nations, and wrath against all their host: he hath utterly destroyed them, he hath delivered them to the slaughter. |
| 3 | et leurs tués seront jetés loin, et la puanteur de leurs cadavres s'élèvera; et les montagnes seront dissoutes par leur sang. | Their slain also shall be cast out, and the stench of their dead bodies shall come up; and the mountains shall be melted with their blood. |
| 4 | Et toute l'armée des cieux s'est fondue, et les cieux sont enroulés comme un livre, et toute leur armée est tombée comme une feuille tombe de la vigne, et comme ce qui tombe du figuier. | And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll; and all their host shall fade away, as the leaf fadeth from off the vine, and as a fading [leaf] from the fig-tree. |
| 5 | Car mon épée sera enivrée dans les cieux: voici, elle descendra sur Édom et sur le peuple que j'ai voué à la destruction, pour le jugement. | For my sword hath drunk its fill in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Edom, and upon the people of my curse, to judgment. |
| 6 | L'épée de l'Éternel est pleine de sang; elle est engraissée de graisse, du sang des agneaux et des boucs, de la graisse des rognons des béliers; car l'Éternel a un sacrifice à Botsra, et une grande tuerie dans le pays d'Édom. | The sword of Jehovah is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness, with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams; for Jehovah hath a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Edom. |
| 7 | Et les buffles descendront avec eux, et les jeunes boeufs avec les taureaux; et leur pays sera trempé de sang, et leur poussière sera engraissée de graisse. | And the wild-oxen shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls: and their land shall be drunken with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness. |
| 8 | Car c'est le jour de la vengeance de l'Éternel, l'année des récompenses pour la cause de Sion. | For Jehovah hath a day of vengeance, a year of recompense for the cause of Zion. |
| 9 | Et les rivières d'Édom seront chargées en poix, et sa poussière en soufre, et son pays deviendra une poix brûlante; | And the streams of [Edom] shall be turned into pitch, and the dust thereof into brimstone, and the land thereof shall become burning pitch. |
| 10 | ni jour ni nuit elle ne sera éteinte, sa fumée montera à toujours; - de génération en génération il sera désert; à tout jamais personne n'y passera; | It shall not be quenched night nor day; the smoke thereof shall go up for ever; from generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for ever and ever. |
| 11 | le pélican et le butor l'hériteront, et le hibou et le corbeau y habiteront. Et il étendra sur lui le cordeau de la désolation et les plombs du vide. | But the pelican and the porcupine shall possess it; and the owl and the raven shall dwell therein: and he will stretch over it the line of confusion, and the plummet of emptiness. |
| 12 | Ses nobles pour proclamer le royaume,... il n'y en a pas! Tous ses princes sont devenus néant. | They shall call the nobles thereof to the kingdom, but none shall be there; and all its princes shall be nothing. |
| 13 | Des épines croîtront dans ses palais, des orties et des ronces dans ses forteresses; et il sera le repaire des chiens sauvages, le parc des autruches. | And thorns shall come up in its palaces, nettles and thistles in the fortresses thereof; and it shall be a habitation of jackals, a court for ostriches. |
| 14 | Les bêtes du désert s'y rencontreront avec les chacals, et le bouc sauvage y criera à son compagnon. Là aussi la lilith se reposera et trouvera sa tranquille habitation. | And the wild beasts of the desert shall meet with the wolves, and the wild goat shall cry to his fellow; yea, the night-monster shall settle there, and shall find her a place of rest. |
| 15 | Là le serpent-dard fera son nid, et pondra, et fera éclore et rassemblera ses petits sous son ombre; là aussi se rassembleront les vautours l'un avec l'autre. | There shall the dart-snake make her nest, and lay, and hatch, and gather under her shade; yea, there shall the kites be gathered, every one with her mate. |
| 16 | Cherchez dans le livre de l'Éternel, et lisez. Pas un d'eux ne manquera; l'un n'aura pas à chercher l'autre; car ma bouche l'a commandé, et mon Esprit les a rassemblés. | Seek ye out of the book of Jehovah, and read: no one of these shall be missing, none shall want her mate; for my mouth, it hath commanded, and his Spirit, it hath gathered them. |
| 17 | Et Lui a jeté le sort pour eux, et sa main leur a partagé le pays au cordeau: ils le posséderont pour toujours; ils y habiteront de génération en génération. | And he hath cast the lot for them, and his hand hath divided it unto them by line: they shall possess it for ever; from generation to generation shall they dwell therein. |
