| 3 | The captain of fifty, and the honourable man, and the counsellor, and the cunning artificer, and the eloquent orator. | il capo di una cinquantina e il notabile, il consigliere, l'esperto in arti magiche e l'abile incantatore. |
| 4 | And I will give children to be their princes, and babes shall rule over them. | Darò loro dei ragazzi come principi, e dei bambini li domineranno. |
| 5 | And the people shall be oppressed, every one by another, and every one by his neighbour: the child shall behave himself proudly against the ancient, and the base against the honourable. | Il popolo sarà oppresso, l'uno dall'altro, e ognuno dal suo prossimo; il fanciullo sarà insolente verso il vecchio, lo spregevole verso l'uomo onorato. |
| 6 | When a man shall take hold of his brother of the house of his father, saying, Thou hast clothing, be thou our ruler, and let this ruin be under thy hand: | Uno afferrerà il proprio fratello nella casa di suo padre e dirà: Tu hai un mantello, sii nostro capo e prenditi cura di questa rovina. |
| 7 | In that day shall he swear, saying, I will not be an healer; for in my house is neither bread nor clothing: make me not a ruler of the people. | Ma in quel giorno egli dichiarerà solennemente, dicendo: Io non fascerò le vostre ferite, perché in casa mia non c'è né pane né mantello; non fatemi capo del popolo. |
| 8 | For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen: because their tongue and their doings are against the LORD, to provoke the eyes of his glory. | Gerusalemme infatti barcolla e Giuda cade, perché la loro lingua e le loro opere sono contro l'Eterno, per provocare ad ira lo sguardo della sua maestà. |
| 9 | The shew of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves. | La loro parzialità con le persone testimonia contro di essi; mettono in mostra il loro peccato come Sodoma e non lo nascondono. Guai a loro, perché fanno del male a se stessi. |
| 10 | Say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their doings. | Dite al giusto che avrà bene, perché mangerà il frutto delle sue opere. |
| 11 | Woe unto the wicked! it shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him. | Guai all'empio! Gli verrà addosso la sventura, perché gli sarà reso quel che le sue mani hanno fatto. |
| 12 | As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths. | Gli oppressori del mio popolo sono fanciulli, e donne dominano su di lui. O mio popolo, quelli che ti guidano ti conducono fuori strada e distruggono il sentiero che tu percorri. |
| 13 | The LORD standeth up to plead, and standeth to judge the people. | L'Eterno si presenta per accusare e prende posto per giudicare i popoli. |
| 14 | The LORD will enter into judgment with the ancients of his people, and the princes thereof: for ye have eaten up the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses. | L'Eterno entra in giudizio con gli anziani, del suo popolo e con i suoi principi: Siete voi che avete divorato la vigna; le spoglie del povero si trovano nelle vostre case. |
| 15 | What mean ye that ye beat my people to pieces, and grind the faces of the poor? saith the Lord GOD of hosts. | Quale diritto avete di calpestare il mio popolo e di pestare la faccia dei poveri?, dice il Signore, l'Eterno degli eserciti. |
| 16 | Moreover the LORD saith, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched forth necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet: | L'Eterno dice ancora: Poiché le figlie di Sion sono altezzose e procedono con il collo teso e con sguardi provocanti, camminando a piccoli passi e facendo tintinnare gli anelli ai loro piedi, |
| 17 | Therefore the LORD will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and the LORD will discover their secret parts. | il Signore colpirà con la scabbia la sommità del capo delle figlie di Sion, e l'Eterno metterà a nudo le loro vergogne. |
| 18 | In that day the Lord will take away the bravery of their tinkling ornaments about their feet, and their cauls, and their round tires like the moon, | In quel giorno il Signore toglierà l'ornamento degli anelli alle caviglie, i cappellini e le lunette, |
| 19 | The chains, and the bracelets, and the mufflers, | gli orecchini, i braccialetti e i veli, |
| 20 | The bonnets, and the ornaments of the legs, and the headbands, and the tablets, and the earrings, | i turbanti, le catenine ai piedi, le cinture, i vasetti di profumo e gli amuleti, |
| 21 | The rings, and nose jewels, | gli anelli, i gioielli al naso, |
| 22 | The changeable suits of apparel, and the mantles, and the wimples, and the crisping pins, | gli abiti da festa, le mantelline, gli scialli e le borsette, |
| 23 | The glasses, and the fine linen, and the hoods, and the vails. | gli specchi, le camicette, i cappucci e le vestaglie. |
| 24 | And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet smell there shall be stink; and instead of a girdle a rent; and instead of well set hair baldness; and instead of a stomacher a girding of sackcloth; and burning instead of beauty. | E avverrà che invece di profumo vi sarà marciume, invece della cintura una corda, invece di riccioli calvizie, invece di una veste costosa un sacco stretto, un marchio di fuoco invece di bellezza. |
| 25 | Thy men shall fall by the sword, and thy mighty in the war. | I tuoi uomini cadranno di spada, e i tuoi prodi in battaglia. |
| 26 | And her gates shall lament and mourn; and she being desolate shall sit upon the ground. | Le sue porte gemeranno e saranno in lutto; tutta desolata siederà per terra. |
