| 3 | Afin qu'il te soit bien, et que tu vives longtemps sur la terre. | that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. |
| 4 | Et vous pères, n'irritez point vos enfants, mais nourrissez-les sous la discipline, et en leur donnant les instructions du Seigneur. | And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but nurture them in the chastening and admonition of the Lord. |
| 5 | Serviteurs obéissez à ceux qui sont vos maîtres selon la chair, avec crainte et tremblement, dans la simplicité de votre coeur, comme à Christ. | Servants, be obedient unto them that according to the flesh are your masters, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; |
| 6 | Ne les servant point seulement sous leurs yeux, comme cherchant à plaire aux hommes; mais comme serviteurs de Christ, faisant de bon coeur la volonté de Dieu; | not in the way of eyeservice, as men-pleasers; but as servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; |
| 7 | Servant avec affection le Seigneur, et non pas les hommes. | with good will doing service, as unto the Lord, and not unto men: |
| 8 | Sachant que chacun, soit esclave, soit libre, recevra du Seigneur le bien qu'il aura fait. | knowing that whatsoever good thing each one doeth, the same shall he receive again from the Lord, whether [he be] bond or free. |
| 9 | Et vous maîtres, faites envers eux la même chose, et modérez les menaces, sachant que le Seigneur et d'eux et de vous est au Ciel, et qu'il n'y a point en lui acception de personnes. | And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, and forbear threatening: knowing that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no respect of persons with him. |
| 10 | Au reste, mes frères, fortifiez-vous en Notre Seigneur, et en la puissance de sa force. | Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of his might. |
| 11 | Soyez revêtus de toutes les armes de Dieu, afin que vous puissiez résister aux embûches du Démon. | Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. |
| 12 | Car nous n'avons point à combattre contre le sang et la chair, mais contre les principautés, contre les puissances, contre les Seigneurs du monde, gouverneurs des ténèbres de ce siècle, contre les malices spirituelles qui sont dans les lieux célestes. | For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world-rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual [hosts] of wickedness in the heavenly [places]. |
| 13 | C'est pourquoi prenez toutes les armes de Dieu, afin que vous puissiez résister au mauvais jour, et après avoir tout surmonté, demeurer fermes. | Wherefore take up the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and, having done all, to stand. |
| 14 | Soyez donc fermes, ayant vos reins ceints de la vérité, et étant revêtus de la cuirasse de la justice. | Stand therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, |
| 15 | Et ayant les pieds chaussés de la préparation de l'Evangile de paix; | and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; |
| 16 | Prenant sur tout le bouclier de la foi, par lequel vous puissiez éteindre tous les dards enflammés du malin. | withal taking up the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the evil [one]. |
| 17 | Prenez aussi le casque du salut, et l'épée de l'Esprit, qui est la parole de Dieu. | And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: |
| 18 | Priant en votre esprit par toutes sortes de prières et de supplications en tout temps, veillant à cela avec une entière persévérance, et priant pour tous les Saints. | with all prayer and supplication praying at all seasons in the Spirit, and watching thereunto in all perseverance and supplication for all the saints, |
| 19 | Et pour moi aussi, afin qu'il me soit donné de parler en toute liberté, et avec hardiesse, pour donner à connaître le mystère de l'Evangile, | And on my behalf, that utterance may be given unto me in opening my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel, |
| 20 | Pour lequel je suis ambassadeur quoique chargé de chaînes, afin, dis-je, que je parle librement, ainsi qu'il faut que je parle. | for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. |
| 21 | Or afin que vous aussi sachiez mon état, et ce que je fais, Tychique, notre frère bien-aimé, et fidèle Ministre du Seigneur, vous fera savoir le tout. | But that ye also may know my affairs, how I do, Tychicus, the beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, shall make known to you all things: |
| 22 | Car je vous l'ai envoyé tout exprès, afin que vous appreniez par lui quel est notre état, et qu'il console vos coeurs. | whom I have sent unto you for this very purpose, that ye may know our state, and that he may comfort your hearts. |
| 23 | Que la paix soit avec les frères, et la charité avec la foi, de la part de Dieu le Père, et du Seigneur Jésus-Christ. | Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. |
| 24 | Que la grâce soit avec tous ceux qui aiment notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ en pureté; Amen! Ecrite de Rome aux Ephésiens par Tychique. | Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ with [a love] incorruptible. |
