La sagesse d'un homme illumine son visage, et l'arrogance de son visage en est changée. | Who is as the wise man? and who knoweth the interpretation of a thing? a man's wisdom maketh his face to shine, and the boldness of his face shall be changed. | Chi è come il saggio? Chi conosce l'interpretazione delle cose? La sapienza dell'uomo fa risplendere la sua faccia e ne cambia la durezza del volto. |
| 2 | dis: Prends garde au commandement du roi, et cela à cause du serment fait à Dieu. | I counsel thee to keep the king's commandment, and that in regard of the oath of God. | Io ti consiglio: osserva il comando del re, a motivo del giuramento fatto a DIO. |
| 3 | Ne te presse pas de t'en aller de devant lui; ne persévère point dans une chose mauvaise; car tout ce qu'il lui plaît, il le fait; | Be not hasty to go out of his sight: stand not in an evil thing; for he doeth whatsoever pleaseth him. | Non avere fretta ad allontanarti dalla sua presenza e non persistere in una cosa cattiva, perché egli fa tutto ciò che gli piace. |

| 5 | Celui qui garde le commandement ne connaîtra aucun mal; et le coeur du sage connaît le temps et le jugement; | Whoso keepeth the commandment shall feel no evil thing: and a wise man's heart discerneth both time and judgment. | Chi osserva il suo comando non proverà alcun male; il cuore dell'uomo saggio sa infatti discernere il tempo e il giudizio, |

Car la misère de l'homme abonde sur lui; | Because to every purpose there is time and judgment, therefore the misery of man is great upon him. | perché per ogni cosa c'è un tempo e un giudizio, e la malvagità dell'uomo pesa grandemente su di lui. |
| 7 | car il ne sait pas ce qui adviendra; car comment cela arrivera, qui le lui déclarera? | For he knoweth not that which shall be: for who can tell him when it shall be? | Poiché egli non sa ciò che avverrà; chi infatti gli dirà come andranno le cose? |
| 8 | Il n'y a point d'homme qui ait pouvoir sur l'esprit pour emprisonner l'esprit, et il n'y a personne qui ait de la puissance sur le jour de la mort, et il n'y a point de dispense dans une telle guerre, et la méchanceté ne délivrera pas ceux qui la pratiquent. | There is no man that hath power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither hath he power in the day of death: and there is no discharge in that war; neither shall wickedness deliver those that are given to it. | Non c'è uomo che abbia potere sullo spirito per poterlo trattenere, o che abbia potere sul giorno della morte. | 9 | J'ai vu tout cela, et j'ai appliqué mon coeur à toute oeuvre qui se fait sous le soleil. Il est un temps où des hommes dominent sur des hommes pour leur mal. | All this have I seen, and applied my heart unto every work that is done under the sun: there is a time wherein one man ruleth over another to his own hurt. | Ho visto tutto questo e ho posto mente a tutto ciò che si fa sotto il sole; c'è un tempo in cui un uomo signoreggia su un altro per suo danno. |
| 10 | Et de même j'ai vu des méchants enterrés et s'en allant, mais ceux qui avaient bien fait s'en allaient du lieu saint, et étaient oubliés dans la ville. Cela aussi est vanité. | And so I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of the holy, and they were forgotten in the city where they had so done: this is also vanity. | Poi ho visto degli empi venire sepolti, i quali erano entrati e usciti dal luogo santo; essi pure erano stati dimenticati nella città dove avevano fatto tali cose. Anche questo è vanità. |
| 11 | Parce que la sentence contre les mauvaises oeuvres ne s'exécute pas immédiatement, à cause de cela le coeur des fils des hommes est au dedans d'eux plein d'envie de faire le mal. | Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. | Poiché la sentenza contro una cattiva azione non è prontamente eseguita, il cuore dei figli degli uomini è pieno di voglia di fare il male. |
| 12 | Bien que le pécheur fasse le mal cent fois et prolonge ses jours, je sais cependant que tout ira bien pour ceux qui craignent Dieu, parce qu'ils craignent sa face; | Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him: | Anche se il peccatore fa cento volte il male e prolunga i suoi giorni, tuttavia io so che otterranno bene quelli che temono DIO, che provano timore davanti a lui. |
| 13 | mais il n'y aura pas de bonheur pour le méchant, et il ne prolongera pas ses jours, comme l'ombre, parce qu'il ne craint pas la face de Dieu. | But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he feareth not before God. | Ma non c'è bene per l'empio, e non prolungherà i suoi giorni come l'ombra perché non prova timore davanti a DIO. |
| 14 | Il est encore une vanité qui a lieu sur la terre: c'est qu'il y a des justes auxquels il arrive selon l'oeuvre des méchants, et il y a des méchants auxquels il arrive selon l'oeuvre des justes. J'ai dit que cela aussi est vanité. | There is a vanity which is done upon the earth; that there be just men, unto whom it happeneth according to the work of the wicked; again, there be wicked men, to whom it happeneth according to the work of the righteous: I said that this also is vanity. | C'è una vanità che avviene sulla terra: ci sono dei giusti che sono trattati come spetterebbe all'opera degli empi, e ci sono degli empi che sono trattati come spetterebbe all'opera dei giusti. Ho detto che anche questo è vanità. |
| 15 | Et j'ai loué la joie, parce qu'il n'y a rien de bon pour l'homme, sous le soleil, que de manger et de boire et de se réjouir; et c'est ce qui lui demeurera de son travail durant les jours de sa vie que Dieu lui donne sous le soleil. | Then I commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be merry: for that shall abide with him of his labour the days of his life, which God giveth him under the sun. | Così ho lodato l'allegria, perché non c'è nulla di meglio per l'uomo sotto il sole che mangiare, bere e stare allegro, perché questo rimane con lui nella sua fatica durante i giorni di vita che DIO gli dà sotto il sole. |
| 16 | Lorsque j'ai appliqué mon coeur à connaître la sagesse et à regarder les choses qui se font sur la terre (car il y a tel homme qui, ni jour ni nuit, ne voit le sommeil de ses yeux), | When I applied mine heart to know wisdom, and to see the business that is done upon the earth: (for also there is that neither day nor night seeth sleep with his eyes:) | Quando io ho applicato il mio cuore a conoscere la sapienza e a considerare l'affannarsi che si fa sulla terra (anche se uno non concede riposo ai propri occhi né giorno né notte), |
| 17 | alors j'ai vu que tout est l'oeuvre de Dieu, et que l'homme ne peut pas trouver l'oeuvre qui se fait sous le soleil: bien que l'homme se travaille pour la chercher, il ne la trouve point; et même si le sage se propose de la connaître, il ne peut la trouver. | Then I beheld all the work of God, that a man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun: because though a man labour to seek it out, yet he shall not find it; yea farther; though a wise man think to know it, yet shall he not be able to find it. | allora ho visto tutta l'opera di DIO, che l'uomo non può arrivare a scoprire tutto ciò che si fa sotto il sole perché, anche se l'uomo si affatica a cercare, non riesce a scoprirlo; e anche se il saggio dice di sapere, non è in grado di scoprirlo. |
