| 2 | Et que l'Eternel ton Dieu te les aura livrées: alors tu les frapperas, et tu ne manqueras point de les détruire à la façon de l'interdit; tu ne traiteras point alliance avec eux, et tu ne leur feras point de grâce. | and when Jehovah thy God shall deliver them up before thee, and thou shalt smite them; then thou shalt utterly destroy them: thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor show mercy unto them; |
| 3 | Tu ne t'allieras point par mariage avec eux; tu ne donneras point tes filles à leurs fils, et tu ne prendras point leurs filles pour tes fils. | neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son. |
| 4 | Car elles détourneraient de moi tes fils, et ils serviraient d'autres dieux; ainsi la colère de l'Eternel s'enflammerait contre vous, et t'exterminerait tout aussitôt. | For he will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of Jehovah be kindled against you, and he will destroy thee quickly. |
| 5 | Mais vous les traiterez en cette manière; vous démolirez leurs autels, vous briserez leurs statues, vous couperez leurs bocages, et vous brûlerez au feu leurs images taillées. | But thus shall ye deal with them: ye shall break down their altars, and dash in pieces their pillars, and hew down their Asherim, and burn their graven images with fire. |
| 6 | Car tu es un peuple saint à l'Eternel ton Dieu; l'Eternel ton Dieu t'a choisi, afin que tu lui sois un peuple précieux d'entre tous les peuples qui sont sur l'étendue de la terre; | For thou art a holy people unto Jehovah thy God: Jehovah thy God hath chosen thee to be a people for his own possession, above all peoples that are upon the face of the earth. |
| 7 | Ce n'est pas que vous fussiez en plus grand nombre qu'aucun de tous les autres peuples, et qu'à cause de cela l'Eternel vous ait aimés, et vous ait choisis; car vous étiez en plus petit nombre qu'aucun de tous les autres peuples. | Jehovah did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all peoples: |
| 8 | Mais c'est parce que l'Eternel vous aime, et qu'il garde le serment lequel il a fait à vos pères, que l'Eternel vous a retirés à main forte, et qu'il t'a racheté de la maison de servitude, de la main de Pharaon, Roi d'Egypte. | but because Jehovah loveth you, and because he would keep the oath which he sware unto your fathers, hath Jehovah brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. |
| 9 | Connais donc que c'est l'Eternel ton Dieu qui est Dieu, le Dieu Fort, le fidèle, qui garde l'alliance et la gratuité jusqu'à mille générations à ceux qui l'aiment et qui gardent ses commandements. | Know therefore that Jehovah thy God, he is God, the faithful God, who keepeth covenant and lovingkindness with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations, |
| 10 | Et qui rend la pareille à ceux qui le haïssent, qui la rend à chacun en face, pour les faire périr; il ne la gardera pas longtemps à celui qui le hait, il lui rendra la pareille en face. | and repayeth them that hate him to their face, to destroy them: he will not be slack to him that hateth him, he will repay him to his face. |
| 11 | Prends donc garde aux commandements, aux statuts, et aux droits que je te commande aujourd'hui, afin que tu les fasses. | Thou shalt therefore keep the commandment, and the statutes, and the ordinances, which I command thee this day, to do them. |
| 12 | Et il arrivera que si après avoir entendu ces ordonnances, vous les gardez et les faites, l'Eternel ton Dieu te gardera l'alliance et la gratuité qu'il a jurées à tes pères. | And it shall come to pass, because ye hearken to these ordinances, and keep and do them, that Jehovah thy God will keep with thee the covenant and the lovingkindness which he sware unto thy fathers: |
| 13 | Et il t'aimera, et te bénira, et te multipliera; et il bénira le fruit de ton ventre, et le fruit de ta terre, ton froment, ton moût, et ton huile, et les portées de tes vaches, et des brebis de ton troupeau, sur la terre qu'il a juré à tes pères de te donner. | and he will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee; he will also bless the fruit of thy body and the fruit of thy ground, thy grain and thy new wine and thine oil, the increase of thy cattle and the young of thy flock, in the land which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee. |
| 14 | Tu seras béni plus que tous les peuples; et il n'y aura parmi toi ni mâle ni femelle stériles, ni entre tes bêtes. | Thou shalt be blessed above all peoples: there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle. |
| 15 | L'Eternel détournera de toi toute maladie, et il ne fera point venir sur toi aucune des mauvaises langueurs d'Egypte que tu as connues, mais il les fera venir sur tous ceux qui te haïssent. | And Jehovah will take away from thee all sickness; and none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, will he put upon thee, but will lay them upon all them that hate thee. |
| 16 | Tu détruiras donc tous les peuples que l'Eternel ton Dieu te livre; ton oeil ne les épargnera point; et tu ne serviras point leurs dieux, car ce te serait un piège. | And thou shalt consume all the peoples that Jehovah thy God shall deliver unto thee; thine eye shall not pity them: neither shalt thou serve their gods; for that will be a snare unto thee. |
| 17 | Si tu dis en ton coeur: Ces nations-là sont en plus grand nombre que moi, comment les pourrai-je déposséder? | If thou shalt say in thy heart, These nations are more than I; how can I dispossess them? |
| 18 | Ne les crains point; mais qu'il te souvienne bien de ce que l'Eternel ton Dieu a fait à Pharaon, et à tous les Egyptiens; | thou shalt not be afraid of them: thou shalt well remember what Jehovah thy God did unto Pharaoh, and unto all Egypt; |
| 19 | De ces grandes épreuves que tes yeux ont vues, des signes et des miracles, et de la main forte, et du bras étendu par lequel l'Eternel ton Dieu t'a fait sortir d'Egypte; ainsi fera l'Eternel ton Dieu à tous ces peuples desquels tu aurais peur. | the great trials which thine eyes saw, and the signs, and the wonders, and the mighty hand, and the outstretched arm, whereby Jehovah thy God brought thee out: so shall Jehovah thy God do unto all the peoples of whom thou art afraid. |
| 20 | Même l'Eternel ton Dieu enverra contr'eux des frelons, jusqu'à ce que ceux qui resteront, et ceux qui se seront cachés de devant toi soient péris. | Moreover Jehovah thy God will send the hornet among them, until they that are left, and hide themselves, perish from before thee. |
| 21 | Tu ne t'effrayeras point à cause d'eux; car l'Eternel ton Dieu, le Dieu Fort, grand, et terrible, est au milieu de toi. | Thou shalt not be affrighted at them; for Jehovah thy God is in the midst of thee, a great God and a terrible. |
| 22 | Or l'Eternel ton Dieu arrachera peu à peu ces nations de devant toi; tu n'en pourras pas d'abord venir à bout, de peur que les bêtes des champs ne se multiplient contre toi. | And Jehovah thy God will cast out those nations before thee by little and little: thou mayest not consume them at once, lest the beasts of the field increase upon thee. |
| 23 | Mais l'Eternel ton Dieu les livrera devant toi, et les effrayera d'un grand effroi, jusqu'à ce qu'il les ait exterminées. | But Jehovah thy God will deliver them up before thee, and will discomfit them with a great discomfiture, until they be destroyed. |
| 24 | Et il livrera leurs Rois entre tes mains, et tu feras périr leur nom de dessous les cieux; et personne ne pourra subsister devant toi, jusqu'à ce que tu les aies exterminés. | And he will deliver their kings into thy hand, and thou shalt make their name to perish from under heaven: there shall no man be able to stand before thee, until thou have destroyed them. |
| 25 | Tu brûleras au feu les images taillées de leurs dieux; et tu ne convoiteras ni ne prendras pour toi l'argent ou l'or qui sera sur elles, de peur que tu n'en sois enlacé, car c'est une abomination aux yeux de l'Eternel ton Dieu. | The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire: thou shalt not covet the silver or the gold that is on them, nor take it unto thee, lest thou be snared therein; for it is an abomination to Jehovah thy God. |
| 26 | Ainsi tu n'introduiras point d'abomination dans ta maison, afin que tu ne sois pas en interdit, comme cela, mais tu l'auras en extrême horreur; et en extrême détestation, car c'est un interdit. | And thou shalt not bring an abomination into thy house, and become a devoted thing like unto it: thou shalt utterly detest it, and thou shalt utterly abhor it; for it is a devoted thing. |
