| 2 | prêche la parole, insiste à temps et à contretemps, reprends, censure, exhorte, avec une entière patience et (souci d')instruction. | preach the word; be urgent in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. |
| 3 | Car un temps viendra où (les hommes) ne supporteront pas la saine doctrine, mais au gré de leurs désirs se donneront une foule de maîtres, l'oreille leur démangeant, | For the time will come when they will not endure the sound doctrine; but, having itching ears, will heap to themselves teachers after their own lusts; |
| 4 | et ils détourneront l'oreille de la vérité pour se tourner vers les fables. | and will turn away their ears from the truth, and turn aside unto fables. |
| 5 | Pour toi, sois sobre en toutes choses, endure la souffrance, fais oeuvre de prédicateur de l'Evangile, remplis pleinement ton ministère. | But be thou sober in all things, suffer hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfil thy ministry. |
| 6 | Quant à moi, je suis déjà offert en sacrifice, et le moment de mon départ approche. | For I am already being offered, and the time of my departure is come. |

| 8 | désormais m'est réservée la couronne de la justice, que m'accordera en ce jour-là le Seigneur, le juste Juge, et non seulement à moi, mais à tous ceux qui auront chéri son apparition. | henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give to me at that day; and not to me only, but also to all them that have loved his appearing. |

| 13 | Le sac que j'ai laissé à Troas chez Carpus, apporte-le en venant, ainsi que les livres, surtout les parchemins. | The cloak that I left at Troas with Carpus, bring when thou comest, and the books, especially the parchments. |
| 14 | Alexandre le forgeron m'a fait bien du mal : le Seigneur lui rendra selon ses oeuvres. | Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord will render to him according to his works: |
| 15 | Toi aussi, tiens-toi en garde contre lui, car il a fait une forte opposition à nos paroles. | of whom do thou also beware; for he greatly withstood our words. |
| 16 | Dans ma première défense, personne ne m'a assisté; tous m'ont abandonné : qu'il ne leur en soit pas tenu compte ! | At my first defence no one took my part, but all forsook me: may it not be laid to their account. |
| 17 | Le Seigneur, lui, m'a assisté et m'a fortifié afin que, par moi, la prédication fût pleinement donnée et que toutes les nations l'entendissent, et j'ai été sauvé de la gueule du lion. | But the Lord stood by me, and strengthened me; that through me the message might me fully proclaimed, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. |
