| 5 | Et me souvenant de la foi sincère qui est en toi, et qui a premièrement habité en Loïs, ta grand-mère, et en Eunice, ta mère, et je suis persuadé qu'elle habite aussi en toi. | having been reminded of the unfeigned faith that is in thee; which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and, I am persuaded, in thee also. |
| 6 | C'est pourquoi je t'exhorte de ranimer le don de Dieu, qui est en toi par l'imposition de mes mains. | For which cause I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee through the laying on of my hands. |
| 7 | Car Dieu ne nous a pas donné un esprit de timidité, mais de force, de charité et de prudence. | For God gave us not a spirit of fearfulness; but of power and love and discipline. |
| 8 | Ne prends donc point à honte le témoignage de notre Seigneur, ni moi, qui suis son prisonnier; mais prends part aux afflictions de l'Evangile, selon la puissance de Dieu; | Be not ashamed therefore of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but suffer hardship with the gospel according to the power of God; |
| 9 | Qui nous a sauvés, et qui nous a appelés par une sainte vocation, non selon nos oeuvres, mais selon son propre dessein, et selon la grâce qui nous a été donnée en Jésus-Christ avant les temps éternels; | who saved us, and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before times eternal, |

| 12 | C'est pourquoi aussi je souffre ces choses; mais je n'en ai point de honte; car je connais celui en qui j'ai cru, et je suis persuadé qu'il est puissant pour garder mon dépôt jusqu'à cette journée-là. | For which cause I suffer also these things: yet I am not ashamed; for I know him whom I have believed, and I am persuaded that he is able to guard that which I have committed unto him against that day. |
| 13 | Retiens le vrai patron des saines paroles que tu as entendues de moi, dans la foi et dans la charité qui est en Jésus-Christ. | Hold the pattern of sound words which thou hast heard from me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. |
| 14 | Garde le bon dépôt par le Saint-Esprit qui habite en nous. | That good thing which was committed unto [thee] guard through the Holy Spirit which dwelleth in us. |
| 15 | Tu sais ceci, que tous ceux qui sont en Asie, se sont éloignés de moi; entre lesquels sont Phygelle et Hermogène. | This thou knowest, that all that are in Asia turned away from me; of whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes. |
| 16 | Le Seigneur fasse miséricorde à la maison d'Onésiphore: car souvent il m'a consolé, et il n'a point eu honte de ma chaîne; | The Lord grant mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus: for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain; |
| 17 | Au contraire, quand il a été à Rome, il m'a cherché très soigneusement, et il m'a trouvé. | but, when he was in Rome, he sought me diligently, and found me |
| 18 | Le Seigneur lui fasse trouver miséricorde envers le Seigneur en cette journée-là; et tu sais mieux que personne combien il m'a rendu de services à Ephèse. | (the Lord grant unto him to find mercy of the Lord in that day); and in how many things he ministered at Ephesus, thou knowest very well. |
