| 1 | Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, | Or, mes frères, nous vous prions pour ce qui regarde l'avènement de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, et notre réunion en lui, |
| 2 | That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. | De ne vous laisser point subitement ébranler de votre sentiment, ni troubler par esprit, ni par parole, ni par épître, comme si c'était une épître que nous eussions écrite, et comme si le jour de Christ était proche. |
| 3 | Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; | Que personne donc ne vous séduise en quelque manière que ce soit; car ce jour-là ne viendra point que la révolte ne soit arrivée auparavant, et que l'homme de péché, le fils de perdition, ne soit révélé; |
| 4 | Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. | Lequel s'oppose et s'élève contre tout ce qui est nommé Dieu, ou qu'on adore, jusqu'à être assis comme Dieu au Temple de Dieu voulant se faire passer pour un Dieu. |
| 5 | Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? | Ne vous souvient-il pas que quand j'étais encore avec vous, je vous disais ces choses? |
| 6 | And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. | Mais maintenant vous savez ce qui le retient, afin qu'il soit révélé en son temps. |
| 7 | For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. | Car déjà le mystère d'iniquité se met en train, seulement celui qui obtient maintenant, obtiendra jusqu'à ce qu'il soit aboli. |
| 8 | And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: | Et alors le méchant sera révélé, mais le Seigneur le détruira par l'Esprit de sa bouche, et l'anéantira par son illustre avènement: |
| 9 | Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, | Et quant à l'avènement du méchant, il est selon l'efficace de Satan, en toute puissance, en prodiges et en miracles de mensonge; |
| 10 | And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. | Et en toute séduction d'iniquité, dans ceux qui périssent; parce qu'ils n'ont pas reçu l'amour de la vérité, pour être sauvés. |
| 11 | And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: | C'est pourquoi Dieu leur enverra une erreur efficace, de sorte qu'ils croiront au mensonge; |
| 12 | That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. | Afin que tous ceux-là soient jugés qui n'ont point cru à la vérité, mais qui ont pris plaisir à l'iniquité. |
| 13 | But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: | Mais, mes frères, les bien-aimés du Seigneur, nous devons toujours rendre grâces à Dieu pour vous, de ce que Dieu vous a élus dès le commencement pour le salut par la sanctification de l'Esprit, et par la foi de la vérité. |
| 14 | Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. | A quoi il vous a appelés par notre Evangile, afin que vous possédiez la gloire qui nous a été acquise par notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ. |
| 15 | Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle. | C'est pourquoi, mes frères, demeurez fermes, et retenez les enseignements que vous avez appris, soit par notre parole, soit par notre épître. |
| 16 | Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, | Or lui-même Jésus-Christ, notre Seigneur, et notre Dieu et Père, qui nous a aimés, et qui nous a donné une consolation éternelle, et une bonne espérance par sa grâce, |
| 17 | Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work. | Veuille consoler vos coeurs, et vous affermir en toute bonne parole, et en toute bonne oeuvre. |
