| 1 | And again the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them, saying, Go, number Israel and Judah. | L'ira dell'Eterno si accese di nuovo contro Israele e incitò Davide contro il popolo, dicendo: Va' a fare il censimento, d'Israele e di Giuda. |
| 2 | And the king said to Joab the captain of the host, who was with him, Go now to and fro through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, and number ye the people, that I may know the sum of the people. | Così il re disse a Joab il capo dell'esercito che era con lui: Va' in giro per tutte le tribù d'Israele, da Dan fino a Beer-Sceba, e fate il censimento del popolo perché io ne conosca il numero. |
| 3 | And Joab said unto the king, Now Jehovah thy God add unto the people, how many soever they may be, a hundredfold; and may the eyes of my lord the king see it: but why doth my lord the king delight in this thing? | Joab rispose al re: L'Eterno, il tuo DIO, moltiplichi il popolo cento volte più di quello che è, e possano gli occhi del re, mio signore, vedere ciò. Ma perché il re mio signore desidera questo?. |
| 4 | Notwithstanding, the king`s word prevailed against Joab, and against the captains of the host. And Joab and the captains of the host went out from the presence of the king, to number the people of Israel. | Tuttavia l'ordine del re prevalse su Joab e sui capi dell'esercito. Così Joab e i capi dell'esercito lasciarono la presenza del re per andare a fare il censimento del popolo d'Israele. |
| 5 | And they passed over the Jordan, and encamped in Aroer, on the right side of the city that is in the middle of the valley of Gad, and unto Jazer: | Passarono il Giordano e si accamparono ad Aroer, a destra della città che è in mezzo alla valle di Gad e verso Jazer. |
| 6 | then they came to Gilead, and to the land of Tahtim-hodshi; and they came to Dan-jaan, and round about to Sidon, | Poi andarono a Galaad e nel paese di Tahtim-Hodsci; quindi andarono a Dan-Jaan e nei dintorni di Sidon. |
| 7 | and came to the stronghold of Tyre, and to all the cities of the Hivites, and of the Canaanites; and they went out to the south of Judah, at Beer-sheba. | Andarono anche alla fortezza di Tiro e in tutte le città degli Hivvei e dei Cananei, e giunsero nel mezzogiorno di Giuda, fino a Beer-Sceba. |
| 8 | So when they had gone to and from through all the land, they came to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days. | Percorsero così tutto il paese e, in capo a nove mesi e venti giorni, fecero ritorno a Gerusalemme. |
| 9 | And Joab gave up the sum of the numbering of the people unto the king: and there were in Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men that drew the sword; and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men. | Joab consegnò al re la cifra del censimento del popolo: c'erano in Israele ottocentomila uomini forti, idonei a maneggiare la spada, mentre gli uomini di Giuda erano cinquecentomila. |
| 10 | And David`s heart smote him after that he had numbered the people. And David said unto Jehovah, I have sinned greatly in that which I have done: but now, O Jehovah, put away, I beseech thee, the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly. | Ma, dopo aver fatto il censimento del popolo, il cuore di Davide lo riprovò grandemente, e disse all'Eterno: Ho gravemente peccato in ciò che ho fatto; ma ora, o Eterno, rimuovi l'iniquità del tuo servo, perché ho agito con grande stoltezza. |
| 11 | And when David rose up in the morning, the word of Jehovah came unto the prophet Gad, David`s seer, saying, | Quando al mattino Davide si alzò, la parola dell'Eterno fu rivolta al profeta Gad, il veggente di Davide, dicendo: |
| 12 | Go and speak unto David, Thus saith Jehovah, I offer thee three things: choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee. | Va' a dire a Davide: Così dice l'Eterno: "Io ti propongo tre cose: scegline per te una e quella ti farò". |
| 13 | So Gad came to David, and told him, and said unto him, Shall seven years of famine come unto thee in thy land? or wilt thou flee three months before thy foes while they pursue thee? or shall there be three days` pestilence in thy land? now advise thee, and consider what answer I shall return to him that sent me. | Gad andò dunque da Davide a riferirgli la cosa e disse: Vuoi che vengano per te sette anni di carestia nel tuo paese o tre mesi di fuga davanti ai tuoi nemici che t'inseguono, o tre giorni di peste nel tuo paese? Ora rifletti e vedi un po' quale risposta devo dare a colui che mi ha mandato. |
| 14 | And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the hand of Jehovah; for his mercies are great; and let me not fall into the hand of man. | Davide disse a Gad: Mi trovo in grande angoscia! Cadiamo pure nelle mani dell'Eterno, perché le sue compassioni, sono grandi, ma che io non cada nelle mani degli uomini!. |
| 15 | So Jehovah sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning even to the time appointed; and there died of the people from Dan even to Beer-sheba seventy thousand men. | Così l'Eterno mandò la peste in Israele, da quella mattina fino al tempo fissato. Da Dan a Beer-Sceba morirono settantamila persone del popolo. |
| 16 | And when the angel stretched out his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, Jehovah repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, It is enough; now stay thy hand. And the angel of Jehovah was by the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite. | Come l'angelo stendeva la sua mano su Gerusalemme per distruggerla, l'Eterno si rammaricò di quella calamità e disse all'angelo che sterminava il popolo: Basta! Ora ritira la tua mano!. L'angelo dell'Eterno si trovava presso l'aia di Araunah, il Gebuseo. |
| 17 | And David spake unto Jehovah when he saw the angel that smote the people, and said, Lo, I have sinned, and I have done perversely; but these sheep, what have they done? let thy hand, I pray thee, be against me, and against my father`s house. | Quando Davide vide l'angelo che colpiva il popolo, disse all'Eterno: Ecco, io ho peccato, io ho agito iniquamente, ma queste pecore che hanno fatto? La tua mano perciò si volga contro di me e contro la casa di mio padre!. |
| 18 | And Gad came that day to David, and said unto him, Go up, rear an altar unto Jehovah in the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite. | Quel giorno Gad venne da Davide e gli disse: Sali e costruisci un altare all'Eterno nell'aia di Araunah, il Gebuseo. |
| 19 | And David went up according to the saying of Gad, as Jehovah commanded. | Così Davide salì, secondo la parola di Gad, come l'Eterno aveva comandato. |
| 20 | And Araunah looked forth, and saw the king and his servants coming on toward him: and Araunah went out, and bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground. | Araunah guardò e vide il re e i suoi servi, che si dirigevano verso di lui allora Araunah uscì e si prostrò davanti; al re con la faccia a terra. |
| 21 | And Araunah said, Wherefore is my lord the king come to his servant? And David said, To buy the threshing-floor of thee, to build an altar unto Jehovah, that the plague may be stayed from the people. | Poi Araunah disse: Perché il re, mio signore, è venuto dal suo servo?. Davide rispose: Per comprare da te quest' aia e costruirvi un altare all'Eterno, affinché la calamità sia allontanata dal popolo. |
| 22 | And Araunah said unto David, Let my lord the king take and offer up what seemeth good unto him: behold, the oxen for the burnt-offering, and the threshing instruments and the yokes of the oxen for the wood: | Araunah disse a Davide: Il re mio signore prenda e offra ciò che gli piacerà! Ecco i buoi per l'olocausto; gli attrezzi per trebbiare e i gioghi dei buoi serviranno per legna. |
| 23 | all this, O king, doth Araunah give unto the king. And Araunah said unto the king, Jehovah thy God accept thee. | O re, tutte queste cose Araunah le dona al re. Poi Araunah disse al re: L'Eterno. il tuo DIO ti sia propizio!. |
| 24 | And the king said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will verily buy it of thee at a price. Neither will I offer burnt-offerings unto Jehovah my God which cost me nothing. So David bought the threshing-floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver. | Ma il re rispose ad Araunah: No, io comprerò da te queste cose al prezzo che costano, e non offrirò all'Eterno, il mio DIO, olocausti che non mi costino nulla. Così Davide comprò l'aia ed i buoi per cinquanta sicli d'argento. |
| 25 | And David built there an altar unto Jehovah, and offered burnt-offerings and peace-offerings. So Jehovah was entreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel. | Poi Davide costruì in quel luogo un altare all'Eterno e offrì olocausti e sacrifici di ringraziamento. Così l'Eterno diede ascolto alla preghiera fatta per il paese e la calamità fu allontanata dal popolo d'Israele. |
