| 13 | For what is it wherein ye were inferior to other churches, except it be that I myself was not burdensome to you? forgive me this wrong. | In che cosa infatti siete stati da meno delle altre chiese, se non in questo, che io non vi sono stato d'aggravio? Perdonatemi questo torto. |
| 14 | Behold, the third time I am ready to come to you; and I will not be burdensome to you: for I seek not your's but you: for the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children. | Ecco, questa è la terza volta che sono pronto a venire da voi, e non vi sarò d'aggravio, perché non cerco i vostri beni, ma voi; perché non sono i figli che devono accumulare per i genitori ma i genitori per i figli. |
| 15 | And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I be loved. | In quanto a me molto volentieri spenderò, anzi sarò speso per le anime vostre, anche se amandovi più intensamente sono amato di meno. |
| 16 | But be it so, I did not burden you: nevertheless, being crafty, I caught you with guile. | Ma sia pure che io non vi sono stato d'aggravio; tuttavia, essendo astuto, vi ho presi con frode. |
| 17 | Did I make a gain of you by any of them whom I sent unto you? | Mi sono forse approfittato di voi per mezzo di qualcuno che vi ho mandato? |
| 18 | I desired Titus, and with him I sent a brother. Did Titus make a gain of you? walked we not in the same spirit? walked we not in the same steps? | Ho pregato Tito di venire da voi e con lui ho mandato questo fratello. | 19 | Again, think ye that we excuse ourselves unto you? we speak before God in Christ: but we do all things, dearly beloved, for your edifying. | Pensate di nuovo che cerchiamo di giustificarci davanti a voi? | 20 | For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I would, and that I shall be found unto you such as ye would not: lest there be debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults: | Temo infatti che talora, quando verrò, non vi trovi come vorrei, e di essere anch'io trovato da voi quale non mi vorreste, che talora non ci siano fra voi contese, gelosie, ire, risse, diffamazioni, insinuazioni, superbie, tumulti; |
| 21 | And lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and that I shall bewail many which have sinned already, and have not repented of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they have committed. | e che, venendo di nuovo fra voi, il mio Dio non mi umilii davanti a voi, e io non pianga su molti di quelli che in precedenza hanno peccato, e non si sono ravveduti dell'impurità, della fornicazione e della dissolutezza che hanno commesso. |
