| 4 | et de ne pas s'attacher à des fables et à des généalogies sans fin, ce qui favorise plutôt des recherches extravagantes que le plan divin du salut qui (repose) sur la foi. | neither to give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questionings, rather than a dispensation of God which is in faith; [so do I now]. |
| 5 | Cette règle a pour but une charité venant d'un coeur pur, d'une bonne conscience et d'une foi sincère; | But the end of the charge is love out of a pure heart and a good conscience and faith unfeigned: |
| 6 | de quoi certains se sont écartés, et se sont tournés vers un vain bavardage, | from which things some having swerved have turned aside unto vain talking; |
| 7 | voulant faire les docteurs de la Loi, alors qu'ils ne comprennent ni ce qu'ils disent, ni ce dont ils se portent garants. | desiring to be teachers of the law, though they understand neither what they say, nor whereof they confidently affirm. |
| 8 | Nous savons bien que la Loi est bonne, pourvu qu'on en fasse un usage légitime, | But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully, |
| 9 | sachant que la Loi n'est pas faite pour le juste, mais pour les gens sans loi et les rebelles, pour les impies et les pécheurs, pour les sacrilèges et les profanes, pour les parricides et les matricides, les homicides, | as knowing this, that law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and unruly, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, |
| 10 | les impudiques, les infâmes, les marchands d'hommes, les menteurs, les parjures, et pour quoi que ce soit encore qui va à l'encontre de la sainte doctrine. | for fornicators, for abusers of themselves with men, for menstealers, for liars, for false swearers, and if there be any other thing contrary to the sound doctrine; |

Mais il m'a été fait miséricorde, parce que j'avais agi par ignorance, n'ayant pas (encore) la foi; | though I was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: howbeit I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief; |
| 14 | et le grâce de notre Seigneur a surabondé avec la foi et la charité qui (est) dans le Christ Jésus. | and the grace of our Lord abounded exceedingly with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. |
| 15 | C'est là parole sûre et digne d'un entier assentiment, que le Christ Jésus est venu dans le monde pour sauver les pécheurs, dont je suis le premier. | Faithful is the saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief: |
| 16 | Mais c'est pour cela qu'il m'a été fait miséricorde, afin que le Christ Jésus fît voir, en moi le premier, toute sa longanimité, en exemple à ceux qui devaient croire en lui pour la vie éternelle. | howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me as chief might Jesus Christ show forth all his longsuffering, for an ensample of them that should thereafter believe on him unto eternal life. |

| 19 | avec foi et bonne conscience. Certains, pour avoir répudié cette (bonne conscience), ont fait naufrage dans la foi; | holding faith and a good conscience; which some having thrust from them made shipwreck concerning the faith: |
| 20 | de ceux-là sont Hyménée et Alexandre, que j'ai livrés à Satan pour qu'ils apprennent à ne point blasphémer. | of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I delivered unto Satan, that they might be taught not to blaspheme. |
